PI 12 forgets my preferences
PI 12 forgets my preferences
Every time I start the program I have to untick the welcome screen and set all my settings in Preferences/General (like disable autosave, quick color panel, 200 undo etc.). Can I make PI remember my settings?
Also I had some problems with the screencapture, had to restart my PC to make it work. Any ideas?

You have given sooo much information, I don't know where to start.
Seriously though, what do you want anyone to base their advise on?
You'll have to do better than that. For starters, have a read of this and act upon it http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=16180
It will give you an idea as to what sort of info we may need and how to provide it.
Before you close PI 12, do you save the work space? Every time you make a change to your settings etc. make a point of saving your profile. When you return to PI, load that profile instead of the default one. That might get you going.

petgabor gave enough information for me to say if you go to preferences/general and make a setting (and "OK" it) you shouldn't have to save your workspace (to keep that setting) no matter what operating system or system configuration you have (as long as it meets the minimum requirements.)
Unless I'm missing something, petgabo is not talking about a workspace configuration but a whole program preference.

Nice of you to butt in. Do you use PI 12? Do your preferences stick the way you describe? Mine don't. We are not talking about how things should be in your opinion but about how they are.
I have not specifically checked for preferences but anything you change on your menu bar or in the EP requires a save of your current work space. If you do not save the workspace after you make any changes, these changes will be lost next time you load PI because it will start up again in its default configuration.

Thank you. If you don't understand my response, I'll "butt out" and say Goodbye.
No, I used PI from version 4 through 11 and a beta tester but won't upgrade anymore. I decided to go the Photoshop path, but continued to stop by here thinking I might be able to help once in a while.
You can obviously answer the question when the user tells you his system specs. (or say the usual "PI12 requirements are ..........." so that's why your preferences aren't persistent.
Butting out.

Re: PI 12 forgets my preferences
Well, I just tried it with a new install of PI 12. I simply assumed that saving my workspace may have caused the retention of my preferences. It retains the preferences without me saving the workspace.petgabor wrote:Every time I start the program I have to untick the welcome screen and set all my settings in Preferences/General (like disable autosave, quick color panel, 200 undo etc.). That, of course means that there must be a different reason for yours forgetting it.
How exactly do you start your program? Did you have any error messages when you installed PI?
Nothing special here. I just installed, no error message. I start by clicking on the desktop icon.
Here after PI loads I randomly (sometimes it does come up sometimes it does not) get the pop-up and I tick it so it should not start next time. My workspace stays the way I want it because I had it saved when I changed the layout, however if the above mentioned pop-up comes up I have all my settings under File/Preferences/General are reset to default.. 20 undo, no quick toolbox etc. Probably a file that should contain these settings keep vanishing when I start and so PI thinks I am starting it the first time (although it retains my customized settings at the top part).
Any ideas?

First, please tell us what kind of user account do you use in Windows? Is it an Adminstrator account? Power User account or Limited User account?
Second, check the System Drive:\Documents and Settings\<Your Account>\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact\12.0\Ulead.Dat folder and look for iedit12.cfg. Is it been set as a read-only file? If it is, remove the read-only flag by right clicking on the file and uncheck the Read-Only option.
Hope this helps.

I have experienced similar problems. The splash menu screen will not go away. I uncheck the box every time I launch the program, and it is always there again with the box checked next time I launch.
The tool changes I made at the top when customizing my workspace stick, but not the Quick colour panel nor the undo settings. I have to go to the general preferences and re-set those every time. The program launches with my workspace, not the default one, but re-loading it does not restore the missing Quick colour panel and my undo settings.
I have administrator account.

Ulead are quite specific when installing PI-12.
Note: Before installing, please temporarily close other running programs or applications including antivirus, Norton utilities, screensaver, other memory resident programs including Internet connection, etc. to avoid unnecessary conflict and restrictions within your system.
If you didn't do the above you may observe certain conflicts. Also, it does seem Pi-12 is a bit more memory hungry, but is a more stable version.
After installing begin to make your own workspace. You can arrange your attribute bar, easy palette etc. When you have done this, right click the menu bar, choose customise, Profiles, Save Current As....... then give you personal settings/profile a Name: Then save. This will save in your PI folder with the chosen name as a .xum.
Each time you add a new item to either your attribute bar or EP don't forget to save to your personal profile.
This profile/workspace will open every time you start up PI-12.
In the top right hand corner you will see a box with drop down, this is where it will display profiles.
Hope this helps.

Kimiko
Sorry to say this, but I have the same problem.
PI-12 just doesn't keep the settings, after about 3 to 4x using PI-12 it resets itself to the default settings.
Then my settings are the same as when I first loaded PI-12.
I have installed PI-12 on XP pro, fully updated, and work in administrator account.
Have followed the advice of htchien and koalablue-aus.
PI-12 simple resets everything, eventough I created a profile and he loads that.
I hope someone at Ulead can fix this bug.
[UPDATE:] The following seems to happen.
I created a profile with the name Kimiko.
I noticed however that PI-12 created a new porfile called Current.
Inside PI-12 when I look at the profile it reads, Current (bases on Kimiko).
This file changes, and get's the default settings about ones every hour or two.
My profile named Kimiko, doesn't change, but isn't the file that's loaded,
eventhough it reads Kimiko in the top right profile box.
I have now made both files read only, this seems to stop PI-12 from reseting the settings.
The program now loads the setting like I want them.
I hope this helps with trying to find this bug.
[UPDATE]Well I thought I found a work around, but I didn't.
PI-12 still resets the settings in preferences, but now it keeps my profile.
It also resets the file open window, to my documents/pictures, it doesn't remember where I last opened the files,
like it did before.
