service pack 2
No. It gives some additional HD functionality which most people do not need, but it also creates problems for existing customers that have Sony and Canopus input devices. So the short answer is NO NO NO NO NO!!!
MF2, MF3, MF4, MF5, VS7, VS10+, VS12, Nero Vision Express. Ricoh and Sony 16x DVD recorder, Sony HC5 High def camera. Also Canopus ADVC110 for AV/DV input through firewire

Do you mean Service Pack 1.
Looking at this link http://www.ulead.com/tech/dmf/dmf_ftp.htm
dated 31 August 2006 a mere 4 weeks ago there is only a Service Pack 1.

The system requirements are set out on this page:
http://www.ulead.com/dmf/sysreq.htm
Although Service pack 2 is listed I would be extremely surprised to find that it didn't work on a fresh installation of XP without service packs.
I cannot check for you though as all my installations of XP are up to date with service packs.

DVDMF 5 requirements (Xp SP2)
Well I'm running Xp Pro with SP1 (Not SP2) and Moviefactory 5 runs flawless. So I guess I have a magic computer or something. I say go ahead and install it and see for yourself. Make a restore point before installing.
Hey maddrummer3301,
What doesn't work when you run SP1 ? Maybe something is not working and I don't know about it .... but I haven't had any problems with mine. I have made tons of DVDs of vacations and family events for myself and other family members with no problems at all. I even use the capture function somtimes, but most of the time I copy the movie from the cam to a disc in my DVR then import it. If you know of any problems from running SP1 could you inform me. Maybe I do need SP2.

Procedure for SP2:every day every 2 minutes it wants to keep updating
At sunset, when the sun has just gone out of view on the horizon, first you light 2 identical candles (note: only 1 candle was needed for SP1). Then you must chant twice, loud and clearly:
Uuh eeh uuh aah aah, ting tang walla walla bing bang.
If it does not work you can try this rather silly approach:
My Computer properties, Manage, choose Services. Stop and disable Automatic Updates and Background Intelligent Transfer Service.

Well I was not trying to convince you to install SP2, that's for sure. You said you don't want SP2 because it keeps trying to update. That's all you said. And I answered that.
Like Heinz, my crystal ball isn't working well.
OK, I made a pun about the "magic" that's sometimes needed to get things to work. But most of these things are documented in MS FAQs about SP2.
SP2 fixes a lot of bugs, but a few new things... are very annoying. We have thousands of SP2 systems running in the company I work for.
Automatic updates, Windows Firewall, and the new SP2 Security Center are disabled (among other services).
Updates are distributed internally after testing, and we use real firewalls (not MS!).
Some of your problems could be related to DEP (Data Execution Prevention) in SP2 which can protect your system against bad code (advanced system properties, performance settings -> DEP). You could try adding the "/NoExecute=AlwaysOff" option to boot.ini to disable DEP completely if your system has certain drivers or software that it doesn't like.
Certain problems with Internet Explorer after SP2 were published (it needs an update too).
Just trying to help, not convince you to do anything!!
