capture A/V severe sync problem, VS8
I'm capturing video from a DV camcorder, via firewire, I think using the recommended procedure settings (translated for VS-8), direct to AVI. The captured video has a severe A/V sync problem, a full minute or two out-of-sync. This problem is not on the original tape, only on the captured AVI. Any suggestions for troubleshooting would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

Version 8 was notorious for out of sync problems. Just a horrible version. I would upgrade to v10. No OOS problems and many nice enhancements.

Hi Jeff,
Yes VS8 was a pig for OOS but that was at the conversion to MPEG point. The OP is getting OOS at the capture stage which would tend to suggest the computer is not quite making it on the DV AVI type 2.
mikewillnot, as well as re-capturing to type 1 also make sure you have every background program you can lay your hands on shut down and also freshly defragged hard drives.

You are quite right.
Hmm, maybe that's why my reading comprehension grades were not that good.

Hi
As lancecarr has stated capture to dv- type 1.
From the capture window select DV as the capture format.
Dv should remain as the capture format and not Avi.
Select ‘options’ and select DV-Type 1
The captured files will be Avi.
This transfers the footage without re-coding.
What you have in the camera is what you get on the pc.
