importing file made in VS and currently on a DVD disc

Post by Grainne_C »

A couple of months ago I copied a home made video on my computer using VS 6.0 and then burned it to DVD. All well and fine. I then deleted the file from my computer because it was large and I didn't need it anymore. Ok, so now I need it again as I want to edit it and splice it with another video.

I popped the DVD into my computer thinking it would just be a matter of importing the video but I've discovered it isn't that easy...when I go into storyboard and select my DVD drive (E) I see that there are 2 folders (Audio_TS and Video_TS). If I select one (say Video_TS) then a dialogue box opens that is empty...so I change 'files of type' from the default All Formats to All Files.

When All files are shown I can see what would be the video called VTS_01_1.VOB (it is 886,060 KBs - all the others are much smaller files) but if I select it and try to open I get the message 'File Format mismatch'. I get this message even if I try to insert any of the other files (BUP or IFO).

VS seems to want me to highlight a VSP file but there is none on the DVD (BTW: the DVD works fine on my computer and on my DVD player).

Can anyone offer a solution?

Hi

I do not have experience with version 6.

Later versions can import a dvd content using the Insert DVD/DVD/VR function.
Not sure that VS 6 can do this. Look at Insert Media files to see if the option is listed.

Assuming No

You could save the TS folder to your hard drive,

Rename the Vob file from VTS_01_1.VOB to VTS_01_1.mpg

Insert as a video file to the timeline.

This sometimes works depending on the Mpeg itself.

Good Luck

Trevor, you are a superstar - it worked. Thanks. I *did* do a search on the item but everyone else is running a later version that lets them import so your solution is much appreciated.
