PhotoImpact 12 is Multi-User

Post by sjj1805 »

There have been a number of previous postings relating to PhotoImpact 11 and multiple user accounts using Windows XP.

The following is an extract from my tutorial:

I had a problem with PhotoImpact 11 that kept stopping at this screen

Despite several tests the only way I could get PhotoImpact11 to run even though this was set as an Administrator Account (bug?) was to modify the shortcut icon as follows:

I am happy to report that having installed PhotoImpact 12 this is no longer an issue. I was able to Open PhotoImpact 12 using different XP User accounts.

And I'm able to do that with PI 11 also

I think this solution is good only for XP Pro, as Home doesn't support saved credentials.

If that was the case, why couldn't Steve do it without a work around?

Despite deep analysis of PhotoImpact 11 including
Registry entries
Installation onto a second Bootup hard drive
and a few hours proding and poking I couldn't get version 11 to run other than with the Admin account (that installed it.)

I discovered from this forum that others had the same problem.
It is possible it might have been a faulty download file on the Ulead server - thus affecting several users who downloaded it.

When Ulead send you a download link for a program I wonder if these are done in batches because these download links are 'time limited.' So perhaps everyone who downloaded during a certain week or month would be affected.

This would explain why some people are affected by an issue not experienced by others like Heinz who was able to run using separate user accounts. Anyway that is just speculation.

The point of this thread is to bring to the notice of others who have this problem with Version 11 the fact that I can now run version 12 in separate accounts. This is something that may sway a decision to buy or not to buy - especially by a small business who wishes to make photoimpact available to a number of users sharing the same machine.
