I am trying to some very simple clip editing.
I just want to clip out certain parts of a clip and then save the remaining clip in the same quality as the original. But is seems in the multi-trim video mode, then in the share tab, using the create video file option, using first file properties (or project properties) saves the file in the original format. I suspect it is because videostudio does not have the "codec" necessary to resave the file in the original format.
If there is a section in help or a tutorial that I should read before you answer that is appreciate as well
-thanks for your time in advance
-ps- I have about 6000 - 8000 clips to edit and all I want to do is remove specific sections of the clip (some of them I want to remove the sound completely, but I think I figured that part out.)
project properties
ntsc drop frame 29.97
mpeg files
24 bits, 720x480m, 29.97
lower field first
dvd-ntsc, 4:3
file format: microsoft avi files - OpenDML
frame rate 1.00 frame/sec
attributes 24 bits, 324x244
from 14629 kb to 169823 kb (using first video clip)
How do I use the original file source properties to save?

Hi mrcelebxx,
To save an edited clip in its original file format (the same format I assume that you captured the file in), simply click on and highlight the clip in the timeline, then click on Clip|Save Trimmed Video in the menu bar at the top left corner of the program window. This function will save the edited file to your hard drive in your "Working Folder" and it will also place the new file in your Library.

In General
OK, this is an OLD thread by now.
BUT I am back at it again.
I am asking the question in GENERAL. I have a variety of clips, in probably I am guessing all different format types. I want to save the file in its original format.
I am guessing I can only do select from the ones that are available.
Trouble is the MPG formats are about 20 times the original file size once created and the wmv file formats are poor quality.
How do I create a happy medium?
-thanks

The original quality is OK.
The original video quality is OK.
The file size is 178000K, but if I do am MPEG file it turns into a 550000K file.
So how can I keep the original quality, without getting a huge file bigger than the original?
Plus I am only clipping a section of the 178000K file.
The original file is about 20 minutes where as the clip is only about 5 minutes, but it gets quadrupled the size.
What I want is to take the 178000K file and clip out only the 5 minutes that I want of the 20 minutes
To me that should make the file 1/4 smaller and not lose any quality.
-thanks

It rather sounds like you are dealing with Xvid DivX or MPEG4 source files.
These are highly compressed though have high quality. They are very popular with Television companies who place their programs on the internet.
To work effectively with them I have found that it is generally better to convert them to a less compressed format MPEG2 and then import that MPEG2 file into VideoStudio.
There are lots of conversion programs available some free, some not free.
Simply Google for them or check our Links the FREE stuff

Great.
Thanks for the suggestion.. I will convert away.
Yes it is a television show scene I am creating.
I have a Whose Line Moving People skit (Lone Ranger) that my father and I saw years ago and still laugh when talking about it. I found a clip of the show but I only want that skit not the whole show, Awesome father's day gift.
-thanks
