Chapter thumbnails in vs10+
Hello.
I've just upgraded from VS7 to 10+ and it doesn't look like there is any way of changing the thumbnails for chapter points in the create disc wizard. You can do it in VS7.
Am I missing something?

Hi StewartTurner,
You are correct.
I asked this same question several weeks ago and got the same confirming answer. Only the video clips that are placed in the Media File Timeline can have their thumbnail view changed.
Hopefully this will become an enhancement for a future VS10+ patch or for the next version.

That's very interesting, because I was doing the exact same thing - setting my chapter points in the middle of my transitions, most of which were the fade-to-blacks, and was getting the same black thumbnail. That is what prompted my same question several weeks ago. Now I have to set my chapter points at the first frame beyond the transition.
I know that Steve J. has already mentioned this to Ulead tech support as a suggested fix for a future patch or version. It always helps if more users contact Ulead tech support requesting the same fix. I have already contacted Ulead directly about this issue, as well.

Stewart,
AFAIK, you can set chapter entry points any place you want to (accurate to 1/2 second) in the Burn module. The only one you can't change is the first one, where I usually have the Title.
If you are using the little brown chapter "bugs" in the Edit timeline, users have reported that they don't survive the Create Video File step. Thus, you can only use them if you burn your DVD directly from the EDIT timeline, which may cause you other problems.

Yes, I've discovered everything you describe.
In VS7 I used to be able to create a chapter point in the middle of a fade to black transition but I could change the thumbnail picture to a frame from somewhere else in the clip. If you want the chapter to start in the middle of a fade to black in VS10 you end up with a black thumbnail.

I do not think you can do that to chapter points.
Afaik. The thumbnail for a chapter point where you select the point.
Using the main menu you can change the thumbnail display to another frame.
I have just tried VS 9 and you appear to be able to change the chapter piont thumbnail, so what has happened to VS 10
VS 10 using the Thumbnail Templates, after setting the chapters.
Left double click on the chapter thumbnail

Hi Stewart
From entering the burner module I add a video:-
1/ I select Add/edit chapters and add a few chapters, select ok.
2 / Next
3 / Select the Gallery tab and choose Thumbnails—select one. (five options)
4/ Under the preview screen I select the chapter menu (currently displayed menu)
4/ I select a thumbnail menu for the chapters
5 / I double click on a thumbnail in the preview screen
6 / I see a pop up window named Start Position
7 / I drag the slider or insert a time in the clock
8 / I select ok
Does this not work for you
All the Best

Trevor,
Excellent tip!!!
I didn't even know this feature existed. The user manual says nothing about it. I was always trying to change the thumbnail view on the Add/Edit Chapter screen, but VS10 won't let you do it there. You have to do it on the chapter menu preview screen just like you outlined. That's great, now I can set my my chapter points at the start or middle of my transitions and then change the thumbnail view of that chapter in the chapter sub-menu.
Thanks again Trevor, you're worth your weight in gold.
