Where did HUGE output file come from?

Post by lombard33 »

New to DVD Workshop. Making tribute videos using the following: 1: Canopus Imaginate (to assemble photos and configure camera moves); Adobe Premiere Pro (for titles and audio); and [hopefully] DVD Workshop to finalize and burn. No menus, no chapters, about 8 minutes long.

There's a problem somewhere in the loop. When I get to the Burn stage, there's a ridiculously huge file -- get this: HD space req/available is listed as "8589377537.9 GB/138.4 GB" and the disk space req/available is listed as an equally silly "524432.0 GB/4.4 GB".

What gives? How do I solve this? In Premiere Pro, the total file size is about 1.8 GB. What settings did I overlook, and how do I fix this? WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED??????

Yikes! Help!!!

Carole

Not knowing what you did with which settings makes it a bit hard.

I think it's a fair assumption that the file size is due to your settings used.

Care to share these with us?

Absolutely! (Wow, you guys are FAST!)

I'll be happy to tell you anything you wish to know, if you'll tell me where to look.

One of the other DVDWS2.232 threads mentioned "...be sure in the EDIT section of DVDWS be sure that the 'convert to disk template' is checked in both the video and audio tab" but I simply cannot find that option on the EDIT page, in either the AUDIO - GENERAL or the VIDEO - GENERAL box. Please be patient with me -- if you'll tell me where to look on any of these programs for ANY of the settings, I'll report whatever information that's there. Tonight is literally my first use of DVDWS, and I'm up to my eyeballs in manuals and How-To's.

Thanks,

Carole

System specs

Post by lombard33 »

BTW, using a Dell XPS running WinXP Media Ctr, Pentium D, 2.80GHz, 1 GB Ram, about 138 GB free space on HD, display adapter NVIDIA GeForce 6800, DVD -/+ RW (Philips DVD8801).

The photo files used are generally .tif, audio format .wav, about 63 images total, so with transitions it runs a little over eight minutes.

Video output format used was .avi, if that matters.

Thanks,

Carole

Carole,

Move a video title onto the timeline along the bottom, then you will see new tabs (not the AUDIO - GENERAL or VIDEO - GENERAL that you are looking at).

The new tabs will show when you have a video on your timeline along the bottom.

George

If that is uncompressed avi, yes, it does matter. If it is DV-AVI the file size is going to be about a 1/4 of uncomressed avi. If you want to put this thing on DVD use mpeg2.

The box "Convert to disc template" also tells you something about your video.

If its blank that means that your video is already DVD compliant and so there is no need to convert it to the current disc template (Unless you have a specific reason to do so - e.g. reduce its size to fit)

Image

If it has a tick in the box already - it will also be greyed out so that you cannot remove the tick - then this tells you that your video is NOT compliant and WILL be converted.

My system info is updated in my Profile, if that helps...

I still don't know what kind of motherboard this is.

One additional peculiar problem...when I open DVDWS, I get an error message which has been addressed in other Ulead forums (forae?), but when taking the steps to remedy the error, I get ANOTHER error message which says I don't have that particular program installed. :?: :?: :?:

Here's the text of the error msg:
Load MPEG vio Driver Error: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\ProductName\ver\app.ini
DVDWS goes ahead and loads, but this obviously means there is an issue of some sort.

I'll have more time to look at this specific project's settings and specs tomorrow night, and will post then. Again, thanks for all the help so far, folks.

Cheers,

Carole

You have a bad install so the MPEG VIO error shows. Please reinstall your product.

MPEG2 Settings??

Post by lombard33 »

If you want to put this thing on DVD use mpeg2.
Okay, I've located the settings in PremPro2.0 for doing the mpeg2 (or should it be mpeg2-DVD?).

At that point I'm faced with a plethora of choices. Current settings are for: NTSC, 720x480, 29.97 fps (drop-frame), field order Lower first, but I can't see the Quality listing (the description gets truncated). The custom-setting options available include NTSC DV 4:3, Low Quality or High Quality, then there's also a NTSC Progressive option available, and either VBR or CBR, 1 pass or 2 pass.

Should I select "de-interlace"? And on the Multiplexing setting, the choice is either "DVD" or "none".

If I can just get shepherded through this first project jungle, I'll be okay from that point forward...HONEST!!

Again, thanks (in advance) for your help, everyone.

Carole

p.s. I'm reinstalling the program this aftenoon to deal with the vio driver error business, BTW. Again, my gratitude --

Until you know what you are doing choose the preset settings.
Only alter things when you become more experienced.

CBR is better than VBR. More work is required by the software to create a VBR and in my opinion its purpose is to make the completed file slightly smaller so that a file that was slightly too big to fit on a DVD with CBR may now fit using VBR.

The various quality settings relate to how long your video is.
Generally speaking at
High Quality you get a hour on a single layer DVD disc.
Good quality 90 minutes per disc
Standard quality you get 2 hours
Long Play 3 hours.

The more you squeeze onto a disc the lower the quality.
When squeezing up to 2 hours onto a DVD on a normal TV set you probably will not notice much difference. Take that DVD round to a friends house with one of those massive 48" TV screens and you will see a big difference.

The video is only going to be about eight minutes -- it's for a funeral tribute. What do I do with the de-interlacing option? It's one of the main settings, and doesn't appear to be connected with a preset.

Your TV is going to display your clip interlaced. De-interlacing can be left alone in this case and should not be ticked.
