Another question... is there any functionality diff between the demo of VS10+ and the full version VS10+ or the SP1 VS10+?
Racking my brain here with what could be the issue.

You don't have to do everything using one program.
Capturing with MovieFactory and Editing with VideoStudio is fine.
My camcorder captures are done with MediaStudio
My TV Card Captures are done with WinTV2000
Editing with either MediaStudio, VideoStudio or Womble.
Authoring mostly done with DVD Workshop.
You do not need to stick rigidly to one product. Use whatever works.

Somegeek,
Sorry, but I disagree with Steve, here. I really want to discourage you from installing lots of different video applications. You are working with high definition video, which many video applications do not handle properly, yet.
For example, old standbys, such as Windows Media Player, choke when playing HD. Virtual Dub can't get the aspect ratio right. VLC, which used to work fine, was "updated" and no longer does. Moreover, it has a user interface that will cheerfully (and silently) write garbage on your HC3's tape, in its CAPTURE MENU!
Lets stick with logical trouble shooting. Shotgunning is going to cause you a lot of trouble, unless you are well experienced in video editing and a super-geek, who can make anything work.
I suspect that when you installed Movie Factory, something crucial to Video Studio's high definition capture got overwritten, (even though many of us have both of these products installed).
So the logical next step is to Restore your computer to a time just prior to that installation and then try capturing a short section of video with VS. System Restore is handled by entering the Control Panel and selecting "System", where you will find the System Restore tab. BTW, it is reversable.
