VS Capture - 1/2 speed and poor - DVD MF Capture - good
Was trying to capture video off my Sony HC3 using VS... capture looked half speed and horrible... captured same material off my camera using DVD MF and it's a good capture. Why the issues with VS? Rebooted - tried new projects - just a straight capture with no luck in VS.
Thoughts??

Ahhhh... MPEG! It's not a DV camera, its HD-MPEG! Still, I would expect both programs to use the same underlying "capture" software.
Have you tried installing the SP1 update? It doesn't say anything about downloading (capturing), but the update does address uploading back to the Sony HC3 camera... Maybe that will fix it.

SomeGeek,
I thought we had you all fixed up in your last thread, where we found out that success is all in the procedures and properties. How did you capture your HDV for that project?
HDV capture works perfectly for me. You have to have XP with SP2 installed.
I have not installed VS10 SP1 and don't intend to, until Ulead figures out why some users can't use the editor after installing SP1.
Troubleshooting your problem begins with
1) Are you sure the capture file is no good? It doesn't matter how it looks during the capture process. Does Media Player Classic play it back?
2) You just finished a sucessful HD project, which probably gobbled up 30 GB or hard disk space. Do you still have at least 30 GB of unfragmented free disk space for this new project?
3) Is the HC3 set up properly during capture?
etc.

Same as the last project.jchunter wrote:SomeGeek,

I have XP Pro SP2 with all current patches.HDV capture works perfectly for me. You have to have XP with SP2 installed.
VS capture playback looked as poor as the capture appeared - 1/2 speed and garbled.I have not installed VS10 SP1 and don't intend to, until Ulead figures out why some users can't use the editor after installing SP1.

50gig free on system drive.2) You just finished a sucessful HD project, which probably gobbled up 30 GB or hard disk space. Do you still have at least 30 GB of unfragmented free disk space for this new project?
60gig free on storage drive.
Yeah - same as the first capture.3) Is the HC3 set up properly during capture?
etc.
This is what is frustrating me - nothing major changed.

Somegeek,
1) Can Media Player Classic playback the captured file?
2) Did you install any new programs on your computer since the first capture?
3) Have you tried System Restore to a date when it last worked? about one weeK ago.
4) When all else fails, try reinstalling Video Studio after completely removing all traces of it from your computer.

Via firewire using your tutorial.
Fire up VS - select capture tab - with camera connected to the firewire port, I power up camera and then after HDV is auto detected and set, I hit capture. The preveiw window shows the video and sound at roughly half the speed it normally plays. Playback shows the same capture.
I follow the same procedure with DVD movie factory with absolutely no issues. Fire up DVD movie factory - select import from device - get to the window where you capture - connect camera - power on camera - capture - everything is good.
I'm to the point where I capture with DVD movie factory and then edit with VS... however, I am on my last day of the VS demo. Don't want to purchase DVD MF for something that VS should be able to do. :/
