Creating VCD problem: I get sound but not picture

Post by andyc »

Hello,
I'm trying to create a VCD from a .mov file. I select the .mov filke and it appears fine in the preview player - no problems there. The auidio and video appear properly. But when I burn a CD from it, I cannot play it with video. I just get the soundtrack. I've tried three players to no avail. Can anyone help?

Hi andyc,
Most of us have probably not made VCDs anymore in quite some time. I've never made one with MF.

Due to the lacking details, all I can think of:
Maybe you've chosen the wrong TV System in your preferences and your TV can't show it.
Does the VCD at least play correctly in the PC (MediaPlayer, WinDVD, whatever)?

Please provide some information like in http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8960 so people can help. Also the models of DVD players you use are needed.

Thanks.

As far as I remember, VCD is very picky when it comes to spec's. It's got to be mpeg1 and not more than a certain number of bps for video/audio combined. Frame size is also very restricted.

Hi everyone - thanks for the responses. The VCd doesn;t play anywhere - in ym laptop, my desktop or on my very new Toshiba DVD player (don't have the model number off hand).

However, someone did write that, "Dvd moviefactory 4 and 5 does not support Mov videos that are encoded with the latest codec H.264" and that is presumably the problem. My .mov files are just that!

I've decided to buy Quicktime Pro (wanted it for a while anyway) and that can happily convert to .avi so hopefullty i can go from there!
