need help on rendering

Post by syorga »

Ok, i have transfered my clip from dvtape to the PC using firewire...
I have edited the clips using MSP8...
Now i want to create an avi file of the newly edited clip. what is the best render options that can create an avi file without losing the quality of the original dv vid (i dont mind about the huge file size)? I have seen this option called DV encoding type 1 and type 2. What are the differences in these two types?

As in audio, the default option is PCM. Is there such a difference if i choose any other options in that very long list?

I'm sorry if this questions has been asked before. I have searched the forum and had no luck.

Thank you so much....

As someone new to video editing you might also find some useful information in this thread aimed at VideoStudio users though most of it also applies to its big brother MediaStudio.

From Camcorder to DVD with Video Studio

Also could I ask that you complete your system specifications as it will assist us with your next query. Details are here:

You lose quality when the video is recompressed. If you change from DV to anything other than uncompressed (or some other "lossless" codec) you will lose quality. Sometimes, that loss is not noticeable - it depends on the codec you use, the quality (time taken to encode a frame) and the bitrate.

Note that is you go to uncompressed, then back to DV, that counts as "recompression".

For no change at all in the quality of the video, you need to render your edits using the same codec they were as a source - in your case this means DV. Note that if you apply filters, transitions or moving paths; there will be recompression of the affected clips.

DV type 1 and type 2 refer to the way the audio is stored in the AVI file. Type 2 duplicates the audio as a separate stream. This was needed for some software such as Premiere. You should stick to type 1.

You can use any audio codec with Type 2 - PCM or DV is recommended (there is also a DV stream embedded in the video). You're stuck with DV audio for type 1.

thanks Gorf, you really understood my question and your answers were spot on.

I fiddled with DV type-1 and type-2, creating an avi video file. When i played it using windows player classic, the sound is only played on one speaker (if i remember correctly, the left one). I am using an external mic thru my cam's mic jack and I understand that that is the reason why the audio is played thru one speaker.

my question is, does MSP8 provide any option that processes the audio so that it would be played as stereo thru both speakers?

thank you so much for the helpfulness.
