Is there a "Pack and Go" feature ?

Post by aschek »

Hi,
I spend 3 days editing a nice video with pictures and video, I used many places (folders) where the pieces where to assemble the video... now, I moved things around, and I need to relink everything...

So, my question is... is there a feature in VS10plus that gets all the files in the project and puts them in ONE folder ? So i hav everything there and not all around the drive in different locations ?

Please let me know.. thanks

Yes ... but I am afraid that feature is called ... you!! VS will capture to the designated working folder (File > Preferences) and put its project file and other working files there. And it provides a Library manager to be able to create specific library windows for each new project which contain only the files relevant to that particular project (Tools > Library Manager) -- though you should note that this will only contain the files in one place in the VS screen. The files themselves will remain wherever they were originally stored on the computer.

But beyond that, it is beyond any program to *automatically* choose where files should go, especially if they are stored in a variety of folders throughout the computer and potentially a variety of media (e.g. if some is stored on CDs or DVDs). There has to be some human intervention. Only you can decide, for instance, whether or not these 'external' sources should be moved to one internal spot. Moreover, you have to both designate or create that spot and then tell the program where that spot is.

And above all, it is you who has to avoid moving things around before the project is completely finished and you have burned your masterpiece to disc...
