Can a person/object be deleted from a video clip?

Can a person/object be deleted from a video clip?
I have some video footage that includes a person/object that I would like to have removed from the video. Is there anyway in VS10+ (or maybe in MSP8) that this can be accomplished, other than possibly cropping the video? Any "tricks of the trade" that could be applied? I'm not sure if Chroma Keying would accomplish this. If Chroma Keying would be someone's suggestion, how would you key out the various colors that this person/object possesses and how would the void space of the absense of the person/object be filled-in to match the surrounding video footage?
I think I already know the answer to this question, but I want to make sure before I abandon all hope of being able to perform such an edit.

Do you actually need to completely remove the person/object or just make it impossible to identify it. - if the latter you could use something like "Moving Parts" a plug in available from here :-

The way you approach this situation will vary from one project to another.
It all depends upon what your video is all about, how long the person you want to hide is visible for, how large he is - is he just a small face in a crowd or the main object in view?
As mentioned above you can blur with stagetools.
You can place something on top of him so that he becomes hidden - e.g. a bit of text, a graphic - how about a picture in picture effect.
You could even try a Logo Remover

BrianCee and Steve,
I need to completely remove the person. The person to be removed is in the video for a long time, over several minutes, and is one of the main people in the scene, althought this person is typically situated on the right side of the video. I suppose I could just use the crop filter and see how this works, as long as it does not remove anything else in the video that might be important.
Your thoughts?

Thanks for your reply Steve. Unfortunately for my situation, I don't watch "24", so I'm not familiar with the particular "picture-in-picture" effect of that show. I know how use "pip" in VS10+, but could you please elaborate how to use the particular "pip" effect of "24" in order to best coverup this person in my main video clip?
Thanks!!!!

Thanks!!!!

Something like this should do the trick

The above picture is an extract from my tutorial:
