Ulead DMF3 lip/sync issue revisited

Post by steeleye »

I am one of the many frustrated by this problem. I thought I had it licked by using VideoReDo for all editing and then authoring my final DVD (including chapter creation) using DMF3 with "do not convert compliant file" checked. However, I am finding intermittent segments lasting several to tens of seconds during playback on my DVD player where the sync is slightly off, just enough to be noticeable and irritating. This occurs several times over the course of a 90 minute video. Interestingly, when I allow MF3 to reencode the video, the sync problem does not occur. However, the reencoded video quality (picture and motion) is not nearly as good as the original MPEG capture.

P4 processor at 1.6Ghz
512MB RAM
20G primary hard drive
120G accessory internal hard drive with two equal partitions (defragmented)
ATI Radion 9000 series video card with MMC
Sony DRU-540A Internal E-IDE/ATAPI Dual-Format DVD ReWritable Drive
Windows XP with service pack 2

During capture with ATI MMC, I encode at half D1 resolution of 352x480 with a VBR of 4000 kbps, no deinterlacing, motion estimation of 90%, P:B frame setting of 2:2, 16-bit stereo audio at 48kHz and 256 kpbs, and no video soap. I monitor the capture for dropped frames, stopping and restarting if the number exceeds 5.

I have tried the suggestions listed in this thread: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=11
However, this only succeeded in increasing the processing time and causing distortion of the music track for the menus.

I've exprience the same problem with MF3. I've tried MPEG's from various sources: TV capture from Hauppauge Tuner card, downloading MPEG's from Internet, and converting AVIs to MPEG's using TMPGENc. All MPEG's played on PC fine, but were still out of synch when burned to DVD using MF3. Also tried Videoredo, but that just made the MPEG's more out of synch. So finally, I tried Sonic's MYDVD 6, and that WORKED GREAT. Although MF3 has many more features, and is easier to use, it doesn't mean much when it doesn't work. Now I'm going to look at other Sonic products to see if something has more features than MYDVD.

Hi,

It would help if you post whether MF3 is re-rendering the Mpg2 files
BEFORE burning the dvd.
Are you editing them, trimming etc. Then they must be re-rendered by
MF3 to a new Mpg2 file (a temp mpg2 file created on the harddisk)
that is then burnt to the dvd.

To save you time one should do as the professionals do.
1. Create a dvd folder on the hard disk first. This will create a dvd
folder stucture exactly the same as the written dvd would be. Except
it's on the harddrive.
2. Open up the VIDEO_TS folder and play/test the dvd structure using
PowerDvd or WinDvd.

The audio sync problem will show up in the dvd structure same as burning
a dvd. This will save the time and fustration of wasting dvd's and time.

Sonic MyDVD can also create a dvd folder.

Hope this helps,

MD

out of synch

At this point, I'm not editing. I've tried to re-rendering, and not. I've tried creating a DVD folder and burning to a DVD-RW, and outputing to ISO and then burning to DVD-RW. The file is "out of synch" in the VIDEO_TS folder. Thanks for the attempt to help, but I've pretty much established the problem is MF3 related, I just don't know how to fix it. Sonic MyDVD6 works fine, I just don't like it's lack of features. But at this point, it's the only thing that works consistently. Any suggestions on how to get MF3 to synch are welcomed.

Hi,
What are the source files you are loading into MF3.
What are their properties.
Are they Mpeg2 files or other type.

How do you know they aren't being re-rendered.
It would be nice to know if on the output screen whether
MF3 says "Rendering Video" or something similar.

Right now I can record a Mpg2 dvd/compliant file 4.2gig, load it into
MF3, create a menuing system and burn. No sync problem.

Something in your configuration has to be different.
Sonic MyDVD may be repairing the Mpeg2 file before burning it.

If MyDVD is creating good dvd's then you can try creating a video
of over an hour long in MyDvd. Make only 1 chapter. Then import
that into MF3. Don't re-render the Mpeg2 file or use Motion Menus
and quickly create a dvd folder. Then test it.
If the dvd is out of sync then the burner files located in the DVD folder
shared by ulead products has incorrect file versions.
That will not FIX the actual Mpeg2 file creation bug though.
That is another buggee.

Of course this takes time to troubleshoot.

Probably if you added up your time you could have worked a part-time job
and bought a dvd-recorder.

Hope this helps,

Yes, I have all the latest drivers and program versions for ATI/MMC, DMF3, and my DVD burner.

To Maddrummer, why would the use of motion menus affect audio-sync with a nonedited MPEG?

Hi,
I suggested that to keep things simple. Motion menus shouldn't have anything to do with the video itself.

Only suggested that to save time creating a dvd structure.

I'm curious if you create only 1 chapter in MyDvd how many videos will
be imported into MF3. Provided your working with one video or MyDvd
will render to one video file first.

Synch problems

Post by SUPERFISH »

MyDVD has an option to convert MPG to Mpeg2 compliant files. I've created DVD's with this switch on, and made them with the switch turned off. Either way produces a DVD that has audio and video in synch. MF3 has a similar option "Do not Convert Compliant MPEG files." I've created DVD's using MF3 with the switch on and with the switch off. Both options created out of synch DVD's. I've created a VIDEO_TS folder using MyDVD and the audio is in synch when played. I then used the same VIDEO_TS imported into MF3 to create a DVD, and it was out of synch when played back. I used the same VIDEO_TS to create a DVD using MYDVD and it was IN SYNCH. I apprecate all the feedback, but I'll just switch to MyDVD and save the headaches.

Superfish, does MyDVD allow you to create nested menus like DMF3 and the option of motion menus (which I think are great)?

MyDVD allows creation of nested menus and motion menus. Plus one addition feature that is great. You can manunally move the buttons on the menu. You aren't tied to the "layout" to determine your button position.

One of the nicest features of MyDVD is the "FIT TO DISC".

If you are using MyDVD I would recommend to join their website
forum like this one. There is alot of useful information on that board.

Also, can I elect NOT to convert compliant MPEGs in My DVD?
