name target file when capturing

Is there a way to designate a file name you are capturing to? I know I can designate a folder but it does not seem to let me designate a file name.

No, you can't designate a file name when capturing, and to me, if it came to a vote, this is perhaps the most annoying and, frankly, silly shortcoming of every VS version I have used since VS7. You can later change the name using Windows for certain purposes. But the basic failure to provide what to me seems such a basic feature is ridiculous.

Thanks Ken, I thought I was going crazy. I just could not imagine software, especially NOT INEXPENSIVE software, not having this feature. Yes, seems pretty nutty. Seems sort of nutty to not have a HELP menu at your fingertips also.

Tks for clearing this up. I will stop looking.

I think the trick is to capture with Msoft which allows you to name the file and then edit with videostudio.

Yes. I should have mentioned that I often use the small freeware program WinDV which is specialised DV capturing software. You can set your own name there too. But my basic point remains: the same courtesy should be available in VS as well...
