Problem burning DVDs in MF 4

Post by davewil »

I have a Sony DRU510A DVD RW internal drive. I record TV programs with Beyond TV 4.2 as Mpeg-2.

I bought a new batch of blank DVDs (TDK DVD+R). When MF-4 attempts to burn the DVD, the following message posp up:

Power calibration failed, Error: (0x80041459)DVDR-DAO-SPTI-2A-02-03-73-03

I had some older TDK DVD-R disk which burn fine. I thought the problem might be with DVD+R. So today I bought a small pack of Fujifilm (it's waht the local CVS had) DVD-R thinking that my burner has become picky about DVD+R. But no luck.

Curiously, random disks will burn.

Is my DVD burner the problem or MF 4 or neither.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the tip.

I installed the firmware but it still will not burn.

I downloaded a diagnostic tool, ran the test (which failed) and sent the report to Sony.

Hopefully, I'll hear back from them.

Thanks again for the tip. It was worth a shot.

I used to have the same burner, It gave up the ghost a year ago. Usually when you get a power calibration error on a CD/DVD writer it will break down shortly. Every one of my CD/DVD writers that gave me the error quit working within a month.

My Sony DRU510A quit spinning up the disks, drive motor died, I didn't get any errors but it wouldn't work, no matter what I did.

Another problem I had with the Sony is that disks that were created about two years ago are failing in my players. I am going through my disks and re recording them before they completly fail

I think its time to replace your drive.

Thanks Ty,

I have come to the same conclusion.

Just curious, with what did you replace it?

I replaced it with a Pioneer DVR-108, since then I have purchased a Pioneer DVR-109 and a DVR-110. I am very happy with the Pioneer drives. The only dvd drive that ever quit working on me was the Sony. Sony doesn't even manufacture their own drives, Liteon makes them and they are the worst drives on the market. I also have a Liteon Dual Layer drive and it won't write any of my CDs, it just makes coasters, some blank dvd work but not many.

About 2 to 3 years ago Sony began marketing Liteon drives with their firmware. Most of the Sony drives can be cross flashed with Liteon firmware or visa versa. I have had nothing but problems with Liteon drives as to media and compability.
