Remove blank space from track timeline after cutting clip

Post by ujosh »

I loaded my 60 minute video onto video 1 track. I chopped the clip up with scissors and deleted the pieces I do not want to use. Now I'd like to shift the remaining clip pieces together. I've seen my friend do this in premiere.

How can I shift all clips to the left? (closing all blank space)
How can I close the blank space between 2 clips?

Thanks for your help.

Click on the clip, hold the mouse button and move it.

Oh, come, Heinz! There is an easier way than that, in all versions. "Search|Find Empty Time Slots". This give a list of all gaps and you can choose to close the gap oor not for each one.

Thanks Devil,

So that worked much better than scrolling around and dragging. But seems there should be a keyboard shortcut or rightclick menu option.

Well, I happily stand corrected, I never had to use that and only shot from the hip. I usually use the ripple edit function and place each clip on the time line after I trimmed it in the preview window.

Just goes to show, one never stops learning.

There probably isn't a shortcut because it is not used frequently; I use it once per project, right at the end, as a double-check foolproofer. As Heinz says, using ripple editing closes the gap automatically if you cut something out.
