Lost my Chapters after burning/saving project

Post by ghoofie »

Here's what happened:

I burned a project...with several projects...to disc.

Watched the DVD a few times and thought I'd like
to make some changes....minor stuff...and reburn.

So I opened my saved project....the chapters are
still there when I first go to SHARE..not having made
any changes yet.

I go to the TITLE time and and make a few word
changes to an existing title. Then I decide to
change the name of a chapter. So I go back to
SHARE...and go to ADD/EDIT chapters...and voila...
chapters are all gone. I have to reenter all my chapters.

Basically...if I open a saved project..without doing anything
and going directly to SHARE...the chapters are there intact.
If I do any editing...and then go to SHARE...the chapters
are gone.

I'm using VS9.

You said: "If I do any editing...and then go to SHARE...the chapters
are gone." Unless someone has any contrary advice (and they well and hopefully may), I believe this to be the general practice of Video Studio, possibly based on the assumption that any post-saving editing may be changing the overall length or structure of the project and thus the basis on which the chapters were inserted. And this appears to be the case whether or not any such changes have occurred, as opposed to the fairly cosmetic ones you made.

But it also now depends on what version of VS you have. If you have VS10, then an innovation in it allows the insertion of chapter points during the editing phase. These are saved as part of the initial project. But the catch is that to get them recognised in the burning phase, you have to insert the project file (.vsp) into the burning module, rather than any actual video file(s). And I am pretty sure that they would remain in the project if you then burned a DVD, but later sought to edit the original project. The main risk here of course is that it goes against our recommended procedure to use the .vsp instead of a 'properly' produced, DVD compliant mpeg-2 (Share > Create Video File > DVD). But if it works, why argue?
