Hi, I've followed the recommended procedures for creating a video file as outlined in this forum but whenever I try to save a file it renders to 1% then gives an error saying "Failed to encode video" when I click ok I inevitably get a dialogue box telling me that Videostudio needs to close (it's v.10+ btw).
Any clues as this is driving me insane?
Failed to encode video!

You don't give us much to go on, and we too require some further 'clues' to help us offer some advice. First, exactly where did the original video come from? What were its properties (right click on a file within Video Studio and copy its properties back here)? Next, what format were you trying to output it to and again, with what properties (the project properties)? What is your computer operating system and specifications? And have you installed any mega codec packs or anything which might have caused a conflict with existing codecs on your computer?

The original video is from a Panasonic camcorder (avi type-1)
Format:24 Bits, (720x576)
Compression: DV Video Encoder - type 1
Comp. ratio: 10%
Frame rate: 25.000 Frames/sec
DV Audio - Pal
Attributes: 48,000KHz, 16 Bit Stereo
Project properties:
PAL (25 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 4:3, 25 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
DV Audio -- PAL, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
I'm trying to output the file as an mpeg with the following properties:

My pc is an AthlonXP 2400 with 1GB of RAM and 2 x 160GB drives running XP SP2 so there's no space issues, I haven't installed any additional codecs as I've only just rebuilt the pc after a drive failure, I have installed SP1 for VideoStudio however.
I've since discovered that it appears to be the audio properties that are causing the error, if I choose the Dolby/Surround option it crashes, if I just use the standard 2 channel stereo option it's fine.
This has solved my problem to a degree but one of the reasons I upgraded to 10+ was to take advantage of the surround sound feature
