DMF 5 Trial - Import Sony Mini DVD Error

Post by btsang »

I am a current owner/user of DVD Movie Factory 3 and since I've purchased a Sony DVD camcorder, I am planning to upgrade it to version 5 as version 3 cannot process widescreen (16:9) and double sound.

I would like to trial it out first before making the decision and downloaded their trial version. But when I tried to import the DVD, I've encouter the error "Failed to open DVD. Report ID: 0x800408ff(2303)" at 30%. This is the same for all mini DVD disk I've tried :(

According to the reply from Ulead support via their support form, they said that there may be problem with the DVD (I don't think so as all the disks I've tried give the same error at the same percentage) and advise me to copy the DVD folder to HD and import it. I've followed their advise and do the same, but now, I've got the same error right at 0%, and it's the same for all disk, which is even worst! :( :(

I've replied to Ulead support and now this time they confirmed there is a bug associated with this, and they have a patch for it. However, that patch only work for purchased version, not the trial version. Thus, there is no way for me to test if it works before purchase. I've replied back asking if I can refund if it still doesn't work after applying the purchased patch. This time, I got no answer so far. This make me believe that even they are not sure if that patch will fix the error.

This is my primary use of DVD Movie Factory, and if it doesn't work, I will not upgrade it (and switch to another product that works ...the only reason I want to upgrade it is that I've been using version 3 for years and familiar with it's interface). Thus, my question to fellow users are ...

Has anyone successfully import mini DVD directly from recorded by Sony camcorder (not using video capture method) using version 5?

Has anyone successfully convert widescreen and stereo sound mini DVD into normal DVD using version 5?

Thanks,
Bosco

I don't see anything in the updates that specifically addresses your problem. I wouldn't take the risk, if that's the only reason you are upgrading.

Didn't your camcorder come with software that can make an MPEG file from the Mini-DVD?

The Sany Camcorder only comes with Nero 6 Express which cannot process wildscreen clips as well.

Maybe you can find someone who already purchased DVDMF 5 and is located nearby you to try it out.

Hope this helps.
