Installing VS7

Post by TNTwister »

I recently received a CD of VS7 with the purchase of a PCI IEEE 1394 card. Upon attempting to install the CD, I'm asked for a serial number. I have taken every number I can find from the box, packaging, and the card...but none seem to be long enough to work...so I'm stuck.

Where do I go from here?? :?:

Hi

I did not think that version 7 asked for a serial number.

Have you tried continuing without entering anything.

VS is now at version 10 so 7 is a bit old.

It won't let me proceed at all until the serial number is entered...trust me, I've tried everything. I was not familiar with the program or its versions...just thought it was kind of odd to ask for a number I couldn't find anywhere... Just bought the card a couple months ago. Wonder why they'd package it with such an outdated program???

Well, I actually found my VS7 install disk and there is a serial number, printed on a stick-on Label on the disk envelope. The number begins with 311A2 - 87000- ....

At the very least, the VS7 disk will entitle you to buy an upgrade to version 10+ for $50, which is a good deal...

I too am surprised that you were required to provide a serial number. In the past couple of months, I have had to buy two Firewire cards (for different computers). I bought completely different brands. Both however came with discs labelled 'Firewire Driver' and '1394 driver', but in reality, both had the full (not SE) version of VS 8. And in both cases, during installation, the serial number was embedded already in the installation process. In other words, neither the envelope the disc came in nor the disc itself contained any serial number; yet the program happily installed and now shows its serial number when I press on the Help button > About VS8.

But you won't get any joy out of Ulead as it is a matter for the hardware manufacturer who bundled the software with their product. And if anyone on this Board attempted to post a serial number, it would be immediately erased by a moderator or the Board's Admin.

I can't recall anymore how many SE versions of different ULEAD software, VS, PhotoExpress etc. I received with bundled with hardware, the last one was VS7 with my new SAMSUNG laptop. I never had to insert a serial number, these were always embedded in the installer.

If yours requires a serial number, it should be somewhere on your packaging materials.

I'm sure it wasn't outdated when "they" packaged it. Incidentally, "they" would be the hardware provider, not ULEAD. I would go back to the store where I bought it or approach the maker of the hardware for the missing number.

Even ULEAD tech/customer support is not going to be able to help with that.
