VS10+ and dissolves

Post by Michael Robotham »

I am a new VS user (ex Pinnacle and some Avid) and am still struggling through the Users Guide (thanK goodness for Forums). I am almost set to edit but can't figure out how to put in a dissolve (or Mix). This is basic stuff but I do need the facility for the wedding vid I am cutting. Noticed in Movie Wizard 'Mixed fades'. Is this what I need and how do I get to use it in the Edit step? Grateful for any help. Michael.

Select the Effects tab, pick from the F/X group in the drop down list, then select "Cross Fades". Like you, I call them dissolves.

And you simply drag it from the F/X transitions window and drop it between two clips in the timeline. You can also, in File > Preferences, set it as the default transition to used in all your projects.

Thank you all for your help, I might have eventually stumbled over crossfades but you've saved me valuable time. I am still sifting my way through the forum to salvage useful advice and tips but soon I'll be cutting - at last. Thanks again.
