VS stops camcorder during capture.......

Post by BritBeef »

Hi there,
I'm trying to capture footage from my camcorder using VS10. The problmm I have is that whenever there is any dead tape (ie. a gap between scenes caused by watching a scene back on the camcorder then overunning a little before next scene is recorded....does that make any sense??!!) as soon as the next scene is encountered after the dead tape, VS then stops the capture and stops the camcorder playback. Is there any way to stop this from happening? I want to leave it to capture the whole tape without having to keep coming back to restart it! I've tried unchecking the 'allow access to capture device's settings' but it still controls the camcorder and stops the capture process.

Thanks for any help!

This is a problem when you have blank video.
Try doing a scan in vs10.

Another good practice when you put a new DV tape into your cam is to 'record' with the lens cap on. What this does is it records a continuous timecode onto the tape without recording any footage since you have the lenscap on. Then when you capture, vs10 will show the clips with the timecode properly. This may even solve your initial problem.

Hope this help

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply.
Sorry to ask what is no doubt a stupid question but what is a 'scan'?

start vs10
select editor
click on the capture step (top tabs)
click the "DV Quick Scan" Option
in the scan scene option, you choose either from begining or current position.

Hope this helps
