V10+ Audio issues

Post by Peta »

I read Ilene's audio issues thread with interest. I have slightly different issues. I am having problems adjusting the audio levels on the music track layer by means of the 'volume rubber band'. To begin with it presented no problems, but this has changed for some inexplicable reason and now when I click a music track on the music layer, it does not give me the option to adjust the volume using the volume rubber band. Using the volume mixer slide is not sufficiently accurate or delicate for what i need to do.

I much prefer the VS9 audio configuration where you could listen to a selected track and record onto the timeline only what you required and in VS9 I certainly didn't have these volume adjust issues.

Any suggestions as to why this has happened?

btw I also had an error message about "not being able to write data" when i installed the upgrade (retail version not downloaded), I ignored it!

It would be more than helpfull knowing what the message really said, it's never advisable to ignore error messages during an installation.

I would suggest a complete removal of VS10 from your system, including the temp files and any registry remnants and do a fresh installation after any firewall and/or virus scanner is disabled for the duration of the install.

Thank you Heinz. When i have completed the existing projects I will do as you suggest and will report back on any error message I receive on the second installation and seek advice then. I do not know what I could have done about the error message at the time, there was no option to take any action, just a message saying it couldn't write some data. Anyway I will let you know.
Thanks

OK I have uninstalled and reinstalled V10+. On both install occasions the following happened:

1) It didn't autorun - i had to use Run D/:autoexec
2) It installed the main program and after "setup updates registry" the next splash screen says "Error while attempting to write to the database"
the ONLY option was to click "finish" whereupon it told me V10+ was successfully installed. No other information about WHY it had trouble writing to the database was provided. I had to ignore that message, there was no other option provided and clicked Finish.

V10+ worked well for a while after the first install, until I started having the audio problems mentioned before. I will now test the audio, in th emeantime, any thoughts about that error message?
Thanks

In VS10+, are you using the AUDIO VIEW (to get that rubber band) :?:

Two ways to get it -- click the AUDIO tab along the top right (before SHARE), then click the AUDIO VIEW button under the Music and Voice tab about half way down.

Or, in the EDIT step, above the Timeline there are three icons on the left. The speaker icon will give you the Audio View.

Regards,
George

Yes I am........... Been using VS9 for 12-15months so very familair with the rubber band usage and I have picked up on the new VS10+ 'audio view" I have to say my current view of it is that it is 'fancy' not 'practical', the lack of any meaningful help in the printed booklet provided with Ulead10+ is a HUGE disappointment.

I find a number of features of VS10+ to be significantly worse than VS9 for example the burning process. I will now create the video file in VS10+ but share to disc in VS9 - I hate the prescriptive VS10 menu - I don';t want their silly happy families backgrounds, I am doing business DVD's but they don't offer a blank, build-your-own facility, as they do in VS9.

I do know that trying to speak to Ulead is a waste of time, been trying for 2 years, emails are never answered, this forum is ignored and the local place is a sales only place

Thanks for the contribution George..........I appreciate the suggestion

If at first you don't succeed - cheat!
What I do is export the audio track.
Open it with the FREE Audio Editor Audacity

Modify, clean up, normalise, mix and do whatever else I feel necessary to the audio track. Save it. Import it back into VideoStudio replacing the existing track.

Ughh???
What blank build your own facility in VS9?
Are you talking about modifications to the sample menus that are provided (those items in the area marked 'A' in this picture)

If so you can customize almost anything about them.

:?:

I customize every single menu I do in VS10 by changing the background image, moving & hiding things, etc.

OK I'm suitably chastised  I shall instantly go and play with those menus. I tried everything I could to change them when I was working with them, but could not get rid of the sample backgrounds and therefore assumed (never assume it makes an *** out of U and ME!) they were set like that and I couldn't find anything in "help" to help me.

I am most appreciative of that sticky sjj and will read it thoroughly. I will take a look at Audacity.

However, no one has any suggestions re the error message on installation that I mentioned in my post?

Thanks

I'm afraid I cannot add anything to that which I wrote before i.e. Posted: Thu Sep 28, 2006 10:46 am Post subject:

Did you obtain your copy of VideoStudio by way of internet download or was it posted to you on a CD?

If it was downloaded it is termed an ESD version (Electronic Delivery Service) and may have a slight corruption. Although a matter of concern it is not always fatal when you encounter an error message during installation.

If you do encounter an error you need to try and write it down before continuing. this enables you to try and investigate any possible errors in the program when the installation has completed.

You should also try and download the program again. This is not always possible as most ESD software has a time limitation on the download link.
If you can download a fresh copy, try installing again with the new one.

If your program came on a CD it is possible you may have a faulty CD.
Firstly check the disc surface for dirt, fingermarks or obvious defects.
If you have a second computer you could do a test installation there.
Bear in mind any software user agreements - you will most likely have to remove the second copy after this test.

Before attempting to reinstall again, you should also clean out your Temp folder (C:\Documents and Settings\[Your Name]\Local Settings\Temp). That often gets clogged up with all sorts of temp files which are not (but should be) cleaned out when installations programs etc finish their work. Sometimes they may cause conflicts with new installations.

It is a hidden folder so make sure your Windows Explorer/My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View is set to allow you to see Hidden Files and Folders.

My copy was bought at Ulead promotion event here in Sydney recently. I did write it down but all it said was 'Error while attempting to write to the database' The CD/DVD drive on the other PC is not reading any discs at the moment, so can't test it there - i'll test it on a Vaio laptop we have but that is currently overseas.

The disc has no apparent scratches or damage of any kind.

Anyway, I'll get it changed if need be.

Thanks again for your help
