Well. I am glad to see that mcope1961 got some resolution to this. My question is how? I called technical support in the U.S. and they told me that they were unaware of the issue. After I read the tech the error message he said it was my firewall. I asked him politely to explain to me how a firewall impacts video editing software… he said “well didn’t the error message say something about security?” Then he explained that he had not heard of issue and I was free to try and get my money back from Element Five. In fact his only suggestion on how to resolve this issue… was to stop using the product. So at technical supports recommendation I am calling Element Five to get a refund and begin to looking into better supported video editing alternatives. I guess because Ulead OEM’s everything (SE editions) they don’t loyal customers willing to pay full price for there stuff. Buh-bye Ulead!... and good luck to everyone else who is now stuck this broken product.

"Security information has been modified"
I too got the same error message, which occurred after updating to SP1, and coincided with a Windows 2000 automatic update. Ulead tech support suggested that this problem "always happen on unstable system" and that I should reinstall Windows.
My original purchase of this software was prompted after installing the TBYB on the cover of a UK video magazine. I've been a big fan of VS for a while, so this was a natural step.
Anyhoo, after uninstalling the software, I downloaded a new TBYB version from the trial downloads link. However, the activation would not accept my code. I uninstalled again, then reinstalled from the original magazine disk. It did not ask for activation, it just reinstalled itself as a full version, complete with serial number. Applying SP1 again created the same problem, so I repeated the steps. This time however, I ran the installer from the downloaded TBYB version after the initial reinstallation and selected the 'repair' option (assuming that the new TBYB version has SP1 incorporated). This physically worked, ie, it reinstalled itself, but then I got the error message again.
I clicked the 'no this did not help me' option in the Ulead Tech Support email, and asked for a new activation code to activate the updated TBYB version. I'm still waiting, although to be fair, it's only been a week.
I think this is a problem that is bigger than what Ulead would like to admit. Look how many views this thread has got....

The TBYB version on the magazine is not the same as the one available for download from the Ulead Website. Magazines tend to provide a special edition of the software, very often the 30 day trial period does not apply to the 'Free Stuff' given away with magazines.
They are like never ending trial versions but more limited than the normal TBYB versions.

Hi,
My case is now solved with the same procedure as mcope1961's. Downloaded a new base install file from a link provided by tech support. Really slow connection (15 kbyte/s), but reliable enough to get the file down within couple of hours...
Uninstalled the "old" VS10+ and did the installation with the new base file, old content pack and SP1. It worked. Back in business again editing junior ice-hockey videos
.
Regards, T.J.

I think I should resubmit my support request. If this is fixing the problem, then I can at last return to the 7 hours of my sisters wedding. Yippee.
No this wasn't a freebie. I was in the UK in June and picked up the July (I think) edition of Digital Video Magazine which contained a DVD stacked full of latest release trial versions of NLE packages. These are identical to ones downloaded direct from the manufacturers website, complete with the 'you have 30 days left' splash screen. I am aware of the existence of SE previous generation freebies, but this was not one of them.... thanks for your response though. The TBYB version on the magazine is not the same as the one available for download from the Ulead Website. SP1 issue
For what it's worth. Just called tech support. Mentioned that I read about the solution for SP1 on the TBYB install, and tech support sent me a link right away. Was on the phone for no more than 10 minutes. I did however try to resolve this once before with the "clean and re-install" instructions.
Dowloading now...
Update: Got the downloads. However, the serial number I rec'd with the TBYB download did not work. Replied to the e-mail of the support tech who sent the download. Waiting a reply, though I've never rec'd an e-mail reply, I always have to call. Seems this problem is costing them more than the cure would. I gotta believe the SP1 could easily be updated to accomodate legal versions...

Well, I got the new non-trial version, the serial number, etc and was able to install everything including SP1.
Unfortunately, the application is crashing whenever I try to move the slider to preview. It simply goes away, no warning, no nothing...
I have a brand new Core 2 Duo E6400, Asus P5B-E MB, 1GB RAM, 200GB free space, an X850XT ATI video card with 256MB RAM. I thought this would make the application rock solid. I have tried the trial version of Sony Vegas Movie Maker, and I can't get it to crash no matter what I try.
Any suggestions on getting the software I own (VS10+) to work?
Suggestions welcome.

I also have windows XPSP2 + Asus P5B deluxe Wifi/AP + Core 2 duo E660 + 2Gb RAM, so my config is close to yours.
I have UVS10+ installed (French version) and I have installed the Ulead Service Pack 1 a few weeks agos (soon after it has been released).
I have absolutely no pb at all to date with VS10+ , and it has been working night and days (encoding, DV export , etc...)since I have installed the SP1.
The only features I have not yet tested are the HDV encoding (but VS10+ recognizes my new Sony HC1 HDV camcorder).
So I do not see how to help you, sorry...

Well... I have thought again about your pb, and maybe... I would like to submit an idea to you:
I told you that I face absolutely NO pb with UVS10+ on my dual core system.
But I forget to mention that I have changed my PC a few days ago so it is a totally new installation: I mean that I installed UVS10+ on a new Windows installation, and just by entering the UVS9 serial number.
UVS9 was NOT installed on my PC previous the installation of UVS10+.
So maybe you should try to remove any trace or component from a previous version of UVS (I let you decide if you are ready to reformat your hard drive...), then start the UVS10+ installation, and when the setup asks for a previous version saying that you have an upgrade version of UVS10+ then just enter the serial number of your UVS9 copy.
Maybe there is a pb with previous version installed / dual core ans SP1 ?
I am not confident that this will solve your pb, but ...
Good luck,
N.

Tried the cleanup and re-install routine. No luck, still crashing within seconds.
No prior version except for the TBYB version, which was replaced.
Sony Vegas Movie Maker (Trial) is rock solid, though a heck of a lot harder to use. So now I'm trying to decide, try to get this working or, learn a new product...
I REALLY don't want to reformat and start over.
the only other thing I'll try is a video driver update...

OK, now for the really bizarre. If I don't click ok on the microsoft dialogue box, I can continue to work in VS10 without a problem. If I click on send or don't send, it closes the app. So I think this is really a problem with NTDLL.DLL not getting correct messages. Hopefully ULEAD Tech support will read this and figure something out...

It looks like it is a windows pb....
