Service Pack 1 won't work on full TBYB version of VS10+

Post by mcope1961 »

I know this sounds like another topic, i.e., http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=17037, but I have the full version of VideoStudio 10 Plus and it won't run after I install the Service Pack 1.

I get a u32Cfg error box: "The security information is invalid or has been modified. This program will be terminated."

I uninstalled and reinstalled VideoStudio without SP1 and it worked, once again. I installed SP1 and it then gave me the same error.

So now, I'm back again at pre-SP1 and wanting to know what went wrong! I have a dual core machine that's waiting to be used. I want to spend my time editing and not fooling around with installs and uninstalls.

Help!

This is definitely a problem for Ulead Tech Support. Please contact them immediately at www.ulead.com.

Ulead Tech Support now has my issue. :!:

I have the problem also

I think Ulead Video Studio 10 plus is a pretty good program. However when I installed the patch posted last week I got the same error message and the program shut down. Contacted Ulead for a fix. I can't believe they put this out without much testing.

Their response was to reinstall everything, which I did, and to manually delete folders that could be left dangling. They also told me to remove any temporary folders with the Windows disk cleanup tool. After going through all that, I still have the same problem with SP1, it won't run.

I haven't heard back from the guys in the lab since about last Friday. I'm probably going to do without dual core support until VS11+ comes out. I'm sort of surprised not more people are having this problem unless it's very unique to Windows XP Professional with SP2.

What I don't understand is that you are running a Pentium Dual Core, which Ulead states that it is optimized for. The AMD's are the ones that I would suspect to have, and some have posted that they have had, problems with. There are several that have not had this problem with the SP1. I don't run a dual core and the SP1 works fine for me, I know no joy for you though. I'm not familiar with how to setup a dualie system, however I think that JC is, and if it stumped him (above post) then something is wrong with the patch.

I know that this is currently being discussed (debated), but bottom line, do our VS Gurus recommend downloading SP1 at this particular time?

When that "security information" error shows up, it usually means someone hacked the product so the product is been terminated.

If it's not a hack thing then you have a bad install and maybe a clean OS install will solve the issue. It's also possible your RAM modules on the mainboard are not in good condition so it will have some errors happen.

Just my thoughts.

I'm not an expert on Windows XP security, but how do I know that XP doesn't view the Service Pack 1 as the hack? I'm not going to reinstall the OS in hopes that that will allow me to run VS10+ with SP1. Maybe Ulead would release VS10+ with SP1 contained so that it would be a single installation. Unless I see a future reason not to, I'm staying with VS10+ solo.

It's not the SP1 to be the hack, it's your original VS 10+ that seems to be hacked. May I have your answer to know how did you get the version?

If it's a pirate version then it's possible you cannot install SP1. If it's not a pirate version and is a legal one, then you need to consider other things I wrote in my previous post.

If your UVS10 is TBYB version then upgrade to "PLUS" retail version, ULEAD will release a SP1 for TBYB(upgrade to "PLUS").
And it'll work normally.
Do you run the SP1 on "TBYB" that is upgraded to Plus version ?
If not, I think that your UVS10 is a hack version.

My version is the TBYB version, which I paid full retail price for, without the rebate. I did upgrade that TBYB to Plus and it is on that that I tried to install SP1.

How do you know that there is or will be a separate SP1 for the TBYB upgraded version? Did I miss that in the release notes?

Did you receive (as I think you should have) links to the download of the full version when you paid the upgrade price? We normally recommend that you fully uninstall the TBYB version and download and install the full version, instead of just using the key to 'upgrade'...

No. The "element 5" company, which I thought was handling this purchase as an agent for Ulead, provided me only the links for the TBYB "full version". I also paid for a year of unlimited downloads (to my computer) of VS10+.

Here's a snippet of what I received.
4. Download the full version (Ulead VideoStudio 10 Plus TBYB - English) at:
http://dl.element5.com/d/ef15ca25d28c3c ... b_e_na.exe
File Size: 135.0 MB
Download Time: Modem/ISDN ~ 315 Min. == DSL/Cable ~ 25 Min. ==
T1/1.5Mbit ~ 12 Min.
Everything in the email is referencing the full TBYB version. Did I get short changed?

I have exactly the same problem. And the advice from Ulead support was the same (clean, clean and reinstall ...) - and the same result - not working. I also bought the product via net from "element 5" and got no advice to uninstall the (legal and unhacked) VS10+ trial version for "clean install" - or legal and registered VS6 from wich I upgraded (which still is functional).

I have now even manually cleaned the register of all references to video studio before fresh install with downloaded installers. Funny thing though that the activation key does not disappear with complete uninstall. After re-install the original program does not ask the key and is fully functional. SP1 then breaks the system.

I have Athlon 64 laptop (no dual core). So, the problem is not so "critical" for me - seems that I have to live with the few bugs and occasional unstability. Otherwise I like the program a lot.
