You are right on, Stewart. There was no crash. I just received the Convert Step error message and the render/burn process was stopped.

John, the menu I used was 05vs_Text01. I can uncheck the Motion Menu box and still have the Auto Fade box checked.

In my V!10+, the Menu-In icon dims out when I de-select Motion menu. This happens if I have the 05vs_Text01 selected or not. Maybe you are using a different control to set up Fade In??

John, this is what I am doing:

From the Share tab I select Create Disc.
I then add my clips to the timeline via Add Media , and check the Use First Clip... box.
I then open Project Settings (gear icon) where I can choose the Auto Fade In.
I then advance to the next screen to choose my menu, where I have chosen 05vs_Text01.
As stated, the Motion Menu box is checked on the Edit tab. If I uncheck it I can still check/uncheck the Auto Fade In box.

Is that how you are doing it?

Now I see how you are doing it and I can verify that "Auto Fade Out to First Menu" is still enabled if I deselect Motion Menus.

I was using the second Burn screen, Edit Tab, Menu-IN icon, which offers four different ways to engage the menu (I assume).

In any case, when you do it your way, VS wants to render "something" and that triggers your problem.

The way I do the menus is to set everything up in the second Burn screen, turn off Motion Menus, and I don't experience the re-rendering problem (with compliant videos).

Bottom line, I urge you to comunicate the problem to Ulead and suggest that they eiher fix the bug or simplify the the DVD menu creation process so that ordinary people can use it.

Yes, John, after my initial problem I then used the Menu-In function as you described and it worked fine.

I have reported this to Ulead.

Problem Fixed.

I normally use DVD Workshop 2 to create my DVD Menus but with the recent release of the PhotoImpact 12 Beta version DVD Menu Wizard I decided I would try using one of the SmartScene Menus in my latest project.
As most users are aware the DVD Authoring modules of Video/Studio 10+ and DVD MovieFactory 5 + are almost identical.

I had this same 'Convert Step Has some problems' error and a sudden stop.
This affected both VideoStudio and also MovieFactory.

At first I suspected the video file and tried a few others - same result.
So next I used my Multi Boot system to start in an alternative version of Windows XP with alternative installations of both programs.
No problems here both programs worked correctly using the same video file(s) that had previously failed.

I first suspected the common files directory. Tried renaming the one on my main system and placing a copy from the back up system. That didn't fix the problem so reverted everything back again. Did similar tests with the C:\Documents and Settings folders. Again no luck.

I tried the suggestions in this thread of turning off fades and so on, no effect.

To cut a long story short - after several hours of trying this that and the other I found a cure.

Step 1.
Rename the following folders by placing a x onto the end of the folder name. This is to fool the machine into thinking they no longer exist.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\10.0

C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory

C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\10.0

(rename Stephen with your user name)

C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5 Plus

C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 10

Step 2.
Now run the installation program for VideoStudio and select the repair option. You will get one error message to the effect it cannot update a database - ignore the error. don't reboot when asked if you wish to do so.

Now Run the installation program for DVD MovieFactory.
When it has completed reboot the computer.

You will now find that both programs work correctly.
Because you renamed the original folders you can now restore any personalised tweaks quite quickly. It worked for me and hopefully will work for you.
