Can I save a WMV file at 640 x 480?

Post by adamoforegon »

The only options I find are 320x240. There are about 30 differnt versions but they all save at 320x240.

Right now I have to save an AVI file and then use a 3rd party PGM to convert it, but the AVI files are huge, 1 GB/minute.

ANy thoughts or am I doing something wrong?

Instead of using one of the predefined templates, select Custom for the output format, then specify WMV for the format, click on the Options button, and customize the settings. There you can select from a large variety of templates, or copy an existing template and customize it further.

Can I save a WMV file at 640x480?

Post by Vicki »

Hi, I was trying to do the same thing, ie save a WMV file at 640 x 480. When I go to share, share online, and select best quality, 640 x480 is listed there in the save dialog box properties, however the output is still only about 320. Also, when I go into create video file, custom, wmv, none of those choices allow me to create a 640 size file and on the profile tab, frame size is grayed out. I'm stuck and confused.

I tried making it into a Quicktime Movie too, but horrible results, it showed a white screen between each clip. The first try 4mb with the white screens and second try over 1 gb.... for a 1.5 minute video. Strange.

I'd appreciate any help someone could provide.
Thanks.

Hi Vicki, I had the same problem when I purchased ulead. Turns out I just didnt have the newest WMV codecs.

Here is my old post:

If this looks like your problem just go DL the windows media 9 encoder pack. :D After that use the Make Movie manager to create a custom WMV template.

WMV - 640 x480

Post by Vicki »

Hi, thanks for responding...

I had downloaded and installed the codec pack last night, but still no change. I don't know how to get Ulead to recognize it. It still says Media Pack 8. Maybe I need a specific one?

I had a trial of Pinnacle last month when I was deciding between the programs and was able to export to WMV 640 with no problem, so maybe the problem lies in the installation of Ulead.

Do you have a link to the codec you used, or did something within VS to import it? Or do I have to reinstall VS?

Thanks....

Hi

Media Pack 8 looks as though its for media player 7

You should be able to up-grade to a later version.

I think XP supports WMV 10.

From windows media player click ¡¥help¡¦ check for updates.

If this size is something you do regularly then you may want to use the make movie manager to create and save the attributes for your wmv. I have several set for size and bitrate for wmv so I can use the appropriate setting based on how I am delivering it.

But is it possible for me to be running Windows Media Player 10 without having the up-to-date codec? Should I de-install and reinstall both the Media Player 10 and VS?

You can just to be sure but the codecs get installed when you install windows media player. I may be wrong but I think Windows Media player 10 still uses the 9 Codec series.

WMV - 640 x 480

Post by Vicki »

Hi all-
Problem solved- doing happy dance.
Downloaded and installed Microsoft Media Encoder 9:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Rebooted, held breath, opened up project and share tab>create video file>custom>wmv
All the missing profiles were there, including the Neptune Best (640)
Project was successfully created.
Did NOT have to deinstall/reinstall VS :P .

Thank you all so much for your input and great advice!
