I have been trying for weeks to get MovieFactory 5 to capture video from my Sony camcorder. I am using Windows XP SP2 with a 1394 Firewire card. Every time I try to capture video I get the message "Failed to connect to driver: Sony DV Device". I know that the camcorder is communicating with the computer since, if I turn the camcorder off, I get the message "No capture driver is available in the system." The last time I tried to resolve this issue with Ulead Tech Support, they suggested that my firewire card manufactured by Pinnacle Systems may work only with their Studio 7 program, so I bought a new firewire card from Dynex only to get the same error message. I can capture video with Studio 7 and also the Windows XP movie program, so why can't I capture using MovieFactory 5? If ANYBODY has a solution to this problem, contact me directly at drc1@netscape.com.
Thanks.

Video capture
In response to your questions--
"1 - Can you control the Sony cam using the controls & preview the tape in the preview window? Rewind, Play, Stop, fast forward etc (no recording, just controlling). "
No. Everything on the Capture Video window is deactivated.
"2 - In the format Dropdown box, what format are you trying to record in, Dvd, mpeg or AVI? "
The format listed is "DVD-HQ 4:3 (Dolby Digital)" but I can't change this since everything is deactivated.
"3 - What happens when you set the format for capturing to AVI. Then hit the PLAY icon to preview the video. AS the video is being viewed in the preview window, what happens when you hit record icon when the tape is rolling?
Note: You must be able to see and preview the video in order to capture it."
I can't do this because, as I said, everything on this window is deactivated.
"4 - How much free space do you have in your Temp folders drive and what drive and directory is assigned to capture to, and where is your working folder assigned to under "Preferences" (F6 Hotkey)? "
I don't have a Temp folders drive. The drive/directory is L:\Imported Viceo with 30 GB free space. There are no Preferences and F6 does nothing.
By the way, Ulead support suggested I uninstall and then re-install MovieFactory 5, which I've done at least twice with no effect. I have decided finally to simply do video capture with Pinnacle Systems Studio 7 as I now believe this issue cannot be resolved.
