ulead vs10 plus crashing loading audio

Post by Ilene »

Has anyone experienced VS10+ crashing when trying to import an audio file? It is crashing both when I try to load from disk and when I try to rip the cd. It won't even shut down when I try to end the program - I have to do a hard re-boot. I'm thinking of uninstalling and reinstalling again but before I do I figured I should check here first.

I saw the patch but I don't think it addresses this problem...does it?

audio crashing

Post by Ilene »

HI

Yes - clearly I'm very frustrated! I know it works. I've been using Ulead VS 8, and 9 for a long time and have used 10+ successfully on my laptop. Clearly something went wrong with the install.

He're how I've trouble shot so far.

I've uninstalled 10+ ( after spending the day copying all my files over...ugh) I went back to 9 - the same issue is now in 9. I can't rip or import - this feature worked fine until today!

I reinstalled 10+ again- didn't resolve anything.

I uninstalled my cd and dvd drives - reinstalled them. I was able to rip a file from the cd drive using windows - so clearly there is no issue with the drives or windows.

I opened VS8 - still on my computer - It ripped from the CD successfully.

I called Ulead tech support - I don't know why ( lol) but I did....They suggested taking VS9 off my computer and they would send me the full version of 10 instead of the upgrade. I really don't want to do this- I like VS9 and wasn't sure I was fully aboard with VS10+ so I wanted 9 available to me as an option. Also - I have a TON of files and projects in the libraries of VS9 and I'm not sure how to preserve them.

So now I'm thinking of doing a system restore back to yesterday. I've never done this before but figured it might be worth a shot.

DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY ADVICE - PLEASE!!!!

One other thing worth noting - when I installed 10+ initially I did get an error message - something about not being able to read a particular instruction - I can't remember if I said to debug or ignore - When I re-intalled 10+ for the second time this didn't occur. I wish I wrote down what the instruction was - it was just a series of letters and numbers.

Feeling desperate....

vs10+ crashing

Post by Ilene »

No it's not that simple. It see's the cd in the drive. I cans see the tracks listed.
Here's my workflow - I open the audio library - click on the folder, select the cd/dvd drive, the tracks appear, I click on track 1 and normally it would process and upload the track - instead - my computer just locks - I get an hourglass and can't even shut ulead down with out having to do a "hard" restart. I also tried clicking on the "import from CD" instruction in the audio window - the same result happens.

I can however select a folder on my hard drive and import an audio file using this method.

I'm sure I can do this as a "work-around" but clearlly this shouldn't be happening.

vs10 - audio crashing problem

Post by Ilene »

Thanks for all the suggestions but still no resolution.

I disabled the relink checking as you suggested - no change.

The cd/DVD drives are all working fine - I can play cd's, I can play DVD's, I can rip music to my hard drive using Windows Media Player. I can also import video files from the DVD drive....I opened the video library and tried to import an mpeg file off of a cd and it worked fine.

I don't have Nero and haven't changed any cd/dvd burning software since the install of VS10+. I have Sonic on my computer.

I downloaded the patch for VS10+ just to see if it would help as you suggested and it didn't.

I'm not sure what you mean about the working folders or temp folders not being pointed in the right direction.

Here's an interesting difference between the crash in VS9 and VS10 - In VS9 - The cd drive makes some noise and I do get the ulead message "processing the cd audio file...." or whatever the verbiage is - I don't remember exactly. But at least it's making some attempt. IN VS10+ I see the audio tracks on the cd but as soon as I try to click on one, it not only doesn't even highlight - but it immediately freezes. I'm not sure if this is significant or not.

I'm really pulling my hair out on this one.

thanks for trying to help....

I spoke to Ulead support tonite and they suggested NOT uninstalling VS9. They are going to look into how to possible repair the files that may have been corrupted.

Anyone know how to copy my libraries so I don't lose data if I do have to do an uninstall of VS9?

crashing problem resolved....

Post by Ilene »

Ok everyone - after a day's worth of frustration and a night of restless sleep agonizing over this ( we've all been there I'm sure!) I decided to do a system restore. I restored back to Monday, the day prior to upgrading to VS10+ - and it appears as if all is in tact and I can once again rip CD audio files. The only thing is I'm back to VS9.

I will attempt to re-install 10+ again - but I'm going to wait a few days and make sure that everything is running smoothly again.

Bottom line is that I think I modified the registry when I chose to "debug" the error message I got when installing VS10+ rather than ignoring it...this is what affected the registry for both VS9 and VS10+. Trust me if the error message pops up again on my next install I will IGNORE it!!

Maybe it's a quirk with MCE - but I've really had no issues running MCE with VS9 prior to this.

so it goes in the wacky world of video editing.....
