Sound and image out of synch

Post by roisinoc1 »

Hi,
I would really appreciate any advice or thoughts on this issue. I have imported an asf file into my library (the asf file is very large - 507 MB), and am creating a video piecing together a selection of clips from this main asf file.

The problem I have is that when I play the individual clips, the audio and video are in synch, but then if I click on "project", and play that part of the project where that clip is, then the audio and video are out of synch.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help!

DISCLAIMER - I've never used an ASF file...

Ulead does seem to have trouble with some highly compressed formats. Some of us have even had trouble with MPEG-2 files. The most trouble-free format is AVI/DV (13GB per hour).
(the asf file is very large - 507 MB)
That's small for a video file.... a little more than 1/10th of a single-layer DVD. But since you didn't give the playing time, I don't know if it's highly compressed, or if it's a short time-duration clip.

Like AVI, ASF is a "wrapper" or "container" format, and it can contain video with almost any compression scheme.

Do you know what format your ASF file is? Do you have any tools that can convert it to ASF/DV or AVI/DV? SUPER (FREE!!!) can probably convert it to MPEG-2, but I don't think it can convert it to DV. Video Studio may be able to convert it, if you convert it before you do any editing. (Click Share and Save-As.)

Thanks for the responses!

The video asf file runs for 10 hours 24 mins, so I guess it is really compressed already? I am not sure where to find out the format of my file...I dragged it into the timeline, and then looked at clip properties....would this be a way to find out? If so, it tells me the following:
-Video:
--Format: 24 bits (320x240)
--Compression: Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V3
--Comp ratio: 0%
-Audio:
--Format: Windows Media Audio V2

My video project uses clips from this file in addition to another file. The second file is 4 hours 20 mins, and 220 MB. The properties of this file are:
-Video:
--Format: 24 bits (320x240)
--Compression: Windows Media Video 9
--Comp ratio: 0%
-Audio:
--Format: Windows Media Audio 9

The final file I am creating is just 16 mins in length, pulling in clips from both these two large files.

Andrewt, I don't understand what your post "afaik asf is wmv " means. Sorry, I am new to this,,,,maybe it should be obvious to me?

Thanks so much all for your help and advice!
