Sound drops out completely for a second or two every 30 seconds or so when playing disc burnt with VS10 in my DVD player.
The player (recorder actually) is an LG DR165
Other Discs work fine in this player
DVDs I burnt with VS 7 work OK in this player
All discs work OK in other players
All discs are DVD-R
VS10
Win XP
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Frame-based
(MPEG-2), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 6000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 224 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz
Seems very weird. Any ideas greatly appreciated

There is nothing obvious in the info you have provided -- though I am intrigued as to why you have chosen Frame Based instead of one of the other Field Orders. But that should not affect sound. And since you are happily in PAL wine country, there should be no trouble using mpeg audio. I happen also to have that same LG player/burner and have had no trouble with it.
The only thing I can think of is to ask what speed you burned your DVD at. We normally recommend keeping the burning speed pretty low -- preferably no higher than 4x -- regardless of the rated speed of both burner and disc. This gives the laser a better chance to embed a firmer signal into the disc.
The other thing is to query whethr you have burned the same project to another disc and whether the audio blip is repeated on the new disc.

Many thanks for your reply Ken.
I wondered about DVD write speed so I tried turning it down to 1X but still had the same problem. I think I will get hold of some other makes of disc and try them.
In answer to the Frame question, I didn't choose it but just picked that up as a default when I burnt the disc.
Thanks again.

Re Frame Based: unless you have a TV which uses progressive scan, you might have some trouble playing your DVD back smoothly on your TV. Frame Based is meant for playback on computer monitors which use a different scanning system to that of ordinary TVs.
That being said, I had long ago noted and commented up the idiocy (IMHO) of Ulead using Frame Based as the default template which users new to the program (let alone the terms) are sucked into using willy-nilly and subsequently have problems...

John,
The video file plays fine on the computer, as does the burnt DVD.
Ken,
Thanks for the update on Frame-based.
I think my next step will be to make a test DVD to try on various players and then go back to the DVD player retailer as it is only a few weeks old (remembering you said yours works OK Ken).
Thansk for your help
Bruce
