HD-DVD Writer???

Post by bwentzel »

Has anyone spotted news about upcoming HD-DVD writers? I check often and haven't read anything promising. It seems like MF5+ would satisfy my requirement to produce high definition slideshows but unless I can output them to a disk that capability is useless.

The first burners are expensive and slow.

That's how bleeding edge technology works.

I'd wait until the manufacturers have had time to work the bugs out of the initial models and the prices will be lower.

In addition, we don't really know which high definition DVD format -- "HD DVD" or "Blu-ray Disc" -- will win.

I'm betting that "HD DVD" will continue to have the edge, but I could be wrong and any investment that one makes now could turn out to be like the investments made by people who bought Sony Betamax.

Here's a link to a USB 2.0 "Blu-ray Disc" external drive:

Thanks for the advice Jerry and indeed the Blue Ray drives for the PC I've seen so far have been VERY expensive and nothing to get excited about. I'd expect the same in HD-DVD drives for the PC but so far I've read absolutely nothing about their availability which is what I was asking about.

It IS possible to write HD-DVD on a red laser regular DVD burner and play it in HD on the Toshiba player.

Look to the AVS Forum for instructions. It uses MF5 and Nero

Thanks for that important nugget of information Eugene. I'm on my way to AVSForum right now!
