Right, a quick recap and what we have so far.

You install DVD Workshop (Full) and it runs OK.
You install VideoStudio 10+. VS10+ runs OK but Workshop now doesn't work.
Your Windows Installation and also the Ulead programs are in their default locations on your "C" drive.

You have checked the Hard Drives with the chkdsk /R function.
You have verified your Windows System Files are intact with sfc / scannow.
When I open any project it just hangs and after about 30 seconds I get the message that "DVD Workshop 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close."
- Have you tried creating a new project from scratch and have you tried using different video files in case the video file itself is the culprit?

Next thing to try.
Run a Registry checker such as Registry Mechanic

Incompatibily problems with Ulead WS 2 and Studio 10+

Post by jtballard »

I ran Registry Cleaner and found no problems. I have run this several times over the past few days and have never found a problem (except a couple of audio filed I had deleted).

I have tried a new project from scratch - same results.

At this point VS 10+ is working but WS 2 just hangs for about 30 seconds when I attempt to load any video file and then crashes.

Could it be possible that either 1) my download from the Ulead site has problems or 2) that the added content, patch 4 or patch 5 download is bad, or 3) could one of the patches be giving me a problem?

What is the difference between the full version and the trial version? I can't forget that the trial version of Workshop 2 worked great with Video Studio 10+. I encountered no problems.

Did the trial version have patch 4 and patch 5 applied?

It is possible it could be one of the patches. To find out you need to uninstall (again) then re-install without any patches.

I wouldn't have though you had a corrupt program download because you previously stated DVD Workshop was working until you installed VS10+.

You also stated VS10+ works OK until you reinstall DVD WS.
I don't know how technically minded you are but If I had this problem I would also look at the shared files found in
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems

I would uninstall both programs and rename the above folder.
Install one program (Thus creating a fresh copy of the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems folder) and back up the common files folder using an appropriate name e.g. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems Workshop Working.

Then install the second program. If the first program malfunctions, change the folders names so that the one working previously
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems Workshop Working
is renamed back to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems
now see if the first program now works.

A problem such as this is going to be a process of elimination.

Incompatibily problems with Ulead WS 2 and Studio 10+

I'll give it a try (it will have to be in a couple of days since I am having eye surgery in the morning).

Can anyone explain the difference to me between the trial version of WS 2 and he full version? Does the trial version have ALL the patches installed (patch 4 and patch 5)? I certainly didn't download and install them when I installed the trial version.

It is unlikely that the Trial Version contains any patches.
A trial Version is normally a fully function Full Version with less content and without anything that needs to be licensed - such as Dolby (AC3).
