DVD-RW not recognized?

Post by Eric_the_Grey »

I have a Pioneer Dual Layer DVD +/-R -RW and have been trying to convert a number of AVI files from computer format to DVD.

I've made several attempts, and while they work, I've not been happy with the results. So I decided to get some RW DVD disks so I can stop wasting DVD+R's.

Trouble is, Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3.5 Suite Deluxe, which came with my drive does not seem to recognize the re-writable disks.

Is this a known issue, a bug, or just something I'm missing, or doing wrong?

Also, will it recognize dual-layer disks? Eventually, I'll be getting those, but not until the price goes down. :)

Edit: I've already checked, and there are no patches or updates for this version of DVD Movie Factory. Just for 3.0

Eric,

Use Verbatim DVD+RW disks. They work fine for me.
As far as dual-layer disk goes, I haven't try any yet so can't help you.

The media brand should be the issue. What media brand do you use??

Try Sony, TDK, Philips, Ritek, Melody, Prodisc, Mitsubishi, Nanya, RiData, Verbatim or any Japanese media brands.

Yes, DVDMF 3.5 officially supports Dual Layer DVDs. For DVDMF 3.0, it will support Dual Layer DVDs after you install the patches. I have tested many Dual Layer DVDs in DVDMF 3.5 and it's OK.

Hope this helps.

I've never had any problems with TDK DVD RW.
I have a Pioneer Single-Layer Burner. It accepts this media but only at 1X Speed.
What you should try is also TDK and burn only at 1X speed first and see what happens.

Thank you guys for your help. The media is ComUSA branded disks, which is most likely the problem. I went with the cheapest one's due to limited funds at the time.

I'll look for some others next week. I guess I'll be waiting until then.
