I have confirmed with Ulead that the prices in the U.S. market both showing the same for boxed -v- download are correct. They are the same price.

PhotoImpact feature request thread

Ulead themselves set up that thread as a means for users to post requested enhancements. How many software Companies give its users that sort of opportunity to help tailor future improvements to their products?
Not quite sure if that refers to me, but 1. my post did not contain requests, 2. I have already posted in this thread, even more than once afair.

As I've noted, practically EVERY company sets up a "feature request" forum/group/list.

It would be more interesting to check how many of the requested features have made it into the new version (and maybe mark them with a color?).

All that's added fe. to text tool is resize by dragging bounding box?
I can do that in PIXL, so I'd love to know how it's enhanced.

After playing around with PI12, I'm tempted to upgrade... but that's mainly because PIXL is missing some of the better improvements to workflow I could use about now. It certainly isn't because of the features... because from what I can see, XL can handle 95% of what version 12 can do (and that last 5% is unfinished, or poorly implimented tools)

Anyway, I'll put a post in the features thread. I love PI, and I'd love to see it develop into something more than a tool for absolute beginners. If I wanted to buy a beginners tool with many half finished features, I'd have chosen one of the other 50 PI competitors out there. As it stands though, I'm hanging out for a *real* upgrade to PI.

Camera Bits, the maker of PhotoMechanic does. The lead programmer checks the board everyday and answers every thread. The program is updated probably every three months with new or expanded features - suggested by users who are active on their forum, and the upgrades are free during the first year of ownership of the program. That is customer service and Camera Bits has a real strong customer loyalty base, myself included.

You'd hope so with a program that costs that much, yet does less than Picasa.

Picasa vs PhotoMechanic is like comparing fruit to veggies.

Picasa looks like a nice application for amatuers with simple features to get the job done on a small scale.

If you are a pro, you want PM. Picasa isn't designed for bulk captioning, have a code replacement feature, ftp client or supports variable coding for custom programming by the user. Like anything else in the marketplace you get what you pay for.

Okay, I see. Still, I don't think it's worth the cash, but I can see why some people might feel it's necessary.

And why are you still hanging around? If I feel it is necessary and/or worth the cash, does that have to apply to you equally? Don't think so. You are happy with XL and don't feel you get enough improvement for your $$, it's sooo simple, don't buy it.

I have dumped XL a long time ago because it was so temperamental on my machine, upgraded to 10 which worked, still does, great. Upgraded to 11 which has its moments and find 12 the best of the lot.

I wouldn't mind getting a list of the 50 or so competitors to PI you mentioned earlier. What exactly are these called and how much do they cost?

So I wanted to let you fellas know where I ended up.

Ulead finally responded to one of my many E-mails. To my surprise, the CSR told me they would be happy to offer me PI12 download version for no extra charge.

I hate D/L versions, but hey, I'll take what they offer.

So in the end, after a bit of grief they did somewhat come through. Fortunately, I had not opened that "other brand" S/W I ordered out of anger and frustration, so it will be returned shortly.

I'm just hoping PI12 is all I hope it to be.

Again, thanks to all of you who offered help and suggestions.
