MF 5 Does not render
Trusting that MF 5 would be a stable and easy to use solution to create author and render DL DVD's I bought this software. Currently i have a project (my first MF5) with holiday movies which looks very nice in preview, but rendering always finishes without creating useful DVD files or images. Since the program does not give me information on why it fails i have to assume that there is a serious bug. But how yo solve this?
I worked for hours on this project and as it is i'm really fed up that it does not work
tnx in advance,
Rudy
PS i get a message it reads : 'Some Chapter Entry Frame Numbers Exceed the Total Frames'. Ands yes i updated to sp1...

Please tell us something about your file format, and how you captured it. The Read This First... post at the top of the forum tells you what we need to know in order to help you.
* There are some file types that can cause problems for the Ulead programs.
Digital video is never easy. But, once you figure-out a procedure that works with your particular hardware, files*, and project-types, MF should be stable.Trusting that MF 5 would be a stable and easy... I worked for hours on this project and as it is i'm really fed up that it does not work

Dear respondents,
tnx for answering. appreciate that. The format i started from is AVI from mini DV (very large files). The source is my Panasonic camera (DV500). I output the files from mini DV to AVI using Panasonic software. I converted these AVI to MPEG2 by exporting the joined fragments after trimming. That preconversion saves a lot of time when rendering. The project settings are DVD (DL) output. The quality is set to best & 2 pass conversion:
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 7500 kbps)
Audio data rate: 160 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
the MPEG2 compliant files are not resampled at rendering. The MPEG2 indexing is on. I have 7 main menu entries and each main menu topic is linked to chapter menu's. All menu's are moving. The time is set to 15 seconds. Some of the music tracks i took from mp3 tracks i trimmed down to about 15 secs. In preview everything works fine.
I wonder if you can help me ?

Good! Your video files should not be the source of the problem. Your procedure sounds good too. (Edit the AVI/DV files first, and encode to MPEG-2 one time, as the last step before making the DVD.)The format i started from is AVI from mini DV (very large files).
That could be the problem. Try converting those MP3s to WAV files (48kHz, 16 bit) before importing them into Movie Factory. I haven't used MP3s with video, but some users have trouble with MP3s. And, some say it's the "unauthorized" LAME MP3 encoder...Some of the music tracks i took from mp3 tracks...

We're getting a little off-topic here...
They seem to have found a loophole. The LAME website says:
And, Thomson wants to collect a small royalty for each MP3 encoder/decoder sold or given away. But clearly, they are not collecting on the free MP3 codecs and they have not been able to shut down the websites.
That's why I put "unauthorized" in quotes.Lame is not unauthorized as open source for personnel use as far as I know .
The LAME source code is open source, and you don't owe the LAME team anything if you use it. But, if you make and distribute an MP3 codec, you are may be infringing on somebody else's patent.LAME is an educational tool to be used for learning about MP3 encoding.
Using the LAME encoding engine (or other mp3 encoding technology) in your software may require a patent license in some countries.

Dear DVDDoug and Maddrummer,
tnx a lot for your fast and comprehensive responses
. It would seem that mp3 is the problem than? I use indeed the LAME encoder for ripping. It is certainly worth trying to use the wav files instead. I just tried to pre-render all menu's to see whether there is a problem somewhere with the rendering process itself. All menu's could be rendered, it took me about an hour, but they all render.
Anyway, i will try the wav files and keep you informed. Finally my sincere thanx for helping me. I'm quite not as fed up anymore
,
greets,
Rudy

guys,
After pre-rendering and more than 3 hrs calculation my project crashed again mentioning: unspecified error [5:0:0]. This happened immediately after the rendering of the menu's in the section 'outputting content'. The project was 76 % fifnished
I'm going to bed now...
I did not try the wav thing yet though... 'll do that tomorrow
bye and good night,
Rudy

I encoded one complete AVI to MPEG2 and i found no 'shakyness'.
Only after i 'joined' the video after trimming the shakyness started occuring. So it was the cutting and rejoining fragments that caused it
Summarizing: 1) import AVI from camera 2) cut using multi trim 3) export as HQ MPEG2 compression file 4)Use these MPEG2's as the basis for the authoring and do not overdo the introduction of chapters.
Finally i would advise not to use MF5 for burning (i ruined one 8,5 GB disc), but rather to burn the DVD files with a dedicated burner software such as Nero
