Installation problem with Photo Impact

Post by BamaGal2312 »

I just purchased Photo Impact 8 SE. When i try to install it, it does nothing. Is there anything that could cause problems where this software wouldn't install???

Thanks!

Are you running XP as an administrator? How, exactly, did you "purchase" PI 8 SE? SE versions are usually bundled with hardware and not for sale separately. Maybe your install disk is faulty?

I'm also interested in if you paid for PI 8 SE. It should not be offered for resale, and just as Heinz stated, bundled with hardware or possibly on a disc in a magazine.

Another thing you might try is exempting it in the Data Execution Prevention. Most of the time Windows will present you with a prompt telling you that DEP has shut the program down. However I have had 2 programs now that would not install or load and there was no prompt as to DEP preventing it from doing so. After pulling what little hair I have left out, I tried the DEP and it worked.
  • Right click on My Computer, select Properties
  • In the dialogue box that opens click on the Advanced Tab
  • The top section on the Advanced tab, Performance press Settings
  • In the Perfomance Options dialogue box there are 3 tabs, select Data Execution Prevention
  • On the DEP tab, you will see at the bottom a radial button that states Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:
  • At the bottom of the view pane press Add.
  • Now browse to the file that launches your program and select it.
  • It should now be added to the list of exemptions and DEP will leave it alone.

Without more information about your system, it remains a mystery.. I refer to Heinz's question above,..

So did this come with some sort of hardware? It's hard to believe that a large corporation like CompUSA is selling a free program, that is somewhat dated too..

Not only does it come as a freebee bundled with some hardware, it's licensing also stipulates "Not for resale" or something to that effect.

If you were sold it without the hardware, you are breaching the licensing agreement as much as the seller did.

CompUSA has entire rack of SE software sold at low prices, marked to be sold only with the purchase of a new PC or laptop. I've seen versions of both PI SE and Videostudio SE there.

CompUSA also usually has clearance bin of discounted out-of-date software.

Whether it was right for CompUSA to sell the SE software unbundled I don't really know or care but I have no doubt OP came by his SE software exactly as he said he did.

I guess that should be exactly as she said she did.

Then they are not selling it alone, they are in fact bundling it with some type of hardware, laptop or PCs. Did you buy a laptop or PC when you aquired your copy?

It was sold by itself as a clearance item.

I'm running XP as administrator. Must be something on my system causing the problem

I would be quite surprised if they are selling PCs and laptops in the clearance bins.

SE version softwares should not be sold along. If they are, then it's breaking the license agreement and they might not be considered as legal versions.

And, as I know the support for SE version is been offered by the one who sells the hardware, not by Ulead. So in my opinion you should contact the one who sold you the software for tech support stuff.
