Linear Pan & Zoom

Post by txrider »

I have started using the Pan & Zoom feature on still images placed in the timeline in VS8, but noticed that when the video is rendered, the Pan & Zoom function seems to function faster at the beginning of the transition and slows down from there on.

I other words, I end up getting a fairly quick initial zoom and/or pan, followed by a more-or-less consistent speed remainder of the function.

Is there any way to make the entire function linear so it is the same speed throughout?

Hi txrider --

I've been doing the same, for a travel video. Sometimes I don't have video of something so I insert a still photo, and liven it up with P&Z.

Are you sure that "faster-then-slower" behavior isn't already there when you click the "play" arrow inside the P&Z dialog box? I've definitely noticed it -- the pan kind of floats to a stop. There are so many adjustments you can make, enabling a mid-point etc., that I've found it pretty controllable.

Well, when I say I notice it when I render it - I actually notice it while just 'testing' the effect. In all cases, the effect is faster at the start than the finish. I have played with activating the mid-point as well - then I usually end up with 2 fast segments and 2 slow segments! (grin)

I think the way the program handles the Pan & Zoom from the looks of it is that it does a lot of processing right off the bat and then slows the effect down towards the end. I would really like to have a straight linear progression rather than a decreasing exponential one.
