Media Studio Pro 8.0 > Video Capture with Sony HDR-HC1E
Do you have Windows XP SP2, or SP1? Think HDV cams need SP2 for the windows driver. Also latest DirectX.
Is the camera switched to "HDV" Firewire/iLink mode? Sometimes they can be set to DV mode in firewire interface, and will down-res & not be recognized as HD... Windows Device Manager should recognize it as "AV/C Tape Device", not "DV Camcorder".
If windows recognizes it OK, are you using HDV capture plugin in msp8?
See the MSP8 training center HDV capture docs (incl. special Sony link) at

Hope that helps, I may soon go thru the same thing with new Canon HV10 !
Tobie T. said it should work at basic level for HDV cameras, until/if they get specific new drivers once cameras are in-hand for them (on the DMN forum threas.)

If your camera is set up right you should show a A/VC Tape device in Device manager->Sound, video and game controllers. If your camera is setup as a DV device it will show up in the Device Manager as a Imaging device. When you get the computer to show a A/VC Tape device you will be able to capture HD Video.
As stated in the previous post your camaera must be set to HD Video and iLink conversion off.
