Made complete videos on a DVD and menu thumbnails are black!

Post by rpavich123 »

Hi,
I mentioned this in another thread but I thought maybe this would be better to just start a new thread of its own.

I made a DVD from 6 separate and complete videos instead of one long vid with 6 chapters.

I used the "thumbnail" menu option and all of the thumbnails except the "image slideshow" came out black.

I believe the reason is that the movies have several frames at the beginning that are black.

Is their a way to set the thumbnail to start ahead of this black area?

I thought I had read that the "non motion" thumbnails could be set on another frame in the video....

Even a screen shot from the video would work for me....

One last question: would it hurt to render my 6 separate movies into one long one and just make chapters? Would it have a detrimental effect on quality? Kind of like "re-recording" from a cassette tape?

I ask this because "mentally" it was much easier for me to "compartmentalize" the sections of video in my mind and only think about them when editing instead of the whole shooting match at once...that shorted me out!

Just for info...my video is of a group going to Va Beach for a couple of days and the vid is divided into: Night footage, day footage, street activity footage, picture collage, etc...

First Treavor did address the black thumbnail issue, in your other post.

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 3218#83218

To do this move the tape head, either slide it or play the video clip until you have a frame that you want to use as the thumbnail image. Then right-click on the video clip thumbnail and select Change thumbnail.

No it should not harm or cause any notible degradation of your video if you choose to render all the clips to a single one. Just make sure to have checked Do not render MPEG Compliant.. Also it is your call if you want to use Smart Render. Some people have reported having problems using it. However I don't think it would be needed in your case. Just rendering all the clips together shouldn't take long at all..

Hi Ron

You learn something every day.

That Change Thumbnail bit, much better than looking at the small pop-up window.
Quicker to select a frame, works like a charm.

Thanks for the info

Cheers
