Audio Distorting

Post by satasha »

Hi. I have 2 mpeg2 dvd compliant files that have lcpm(? lossless) audio. they both sound and look perfect when I play them. However, when I go to make a dvd with them, the sound distorts. Not total distortion, just on peaks. I tried to match the settings to be the same making the dvd as what I used making the mpegs. Any ideas on what is going wrong? This is the last hurdle. If I can just get past this, my project will be done. Thanks if you can help!

Try using the 'normalize audio' feature at the burn stage. The Normalize Audio function evaluates and adjusts the audio waveform of your project and produces a balanced audio level throughout your video.

Sorry, but that is unacceptable. This is a music video. The music has already been mastered. Something is not performing right in the final dvd write stage and I would like to know what it is or I will have to switch software.

Burn your video file using different software then. Video Studio is primarily editing software, it burns competently, but you may need a more professional application for your project.

I must admit I did have problems with burning to DVD, even though VideoStudio is an excellent program otherwise. I suggest using something like Sonic RecordNow! which I have always found reliable.

You can of course bypass the writing feature and request that VS exports a DVD Image (.iso) which you should then be able to write to DVD using the VCD DVD Disc Image Recorder, found in the same directory of the Start Menu as VideoStudio itself.

Hope this helps and good luck with getting your project finished :)

I also tried the DVD Image route with the same results which makes me think that something somewhere is screwed up. I will look into the software you suggested. It is frustrating to be this close to being done after weeks of work and then to have something stupid grind it to a halt.

By the sounds of the problems you've been experiencing, it's highly possible it's a problem with the writing DVD section of Ulead VS. In one respect, it is video editing software, not DVD writing.

Here is a website address for more information about Sonic/Roxio RecordNow! 8, the latest version of the software. You can purchase it from the website for £14.99, although you might be able to pick it up for cheaper using http://www.froogle.co.uk, Google's answer to cheaper shopping. :)

Thanks for the help. I have overcome this problem by using DvdLab and TempEnc. VS is great editor but needs some work on the end game. Anyway, thanks!

I've had the same problem. Are you converting the LPCM to AC3? My solution was to reduce the volume to 75%.

I don't know it 75% is the "correct" number, but it helped. And, I don't understand how this can happen with a digital-to-digital conversion!

Interesting, Doug. I keep my audio as LPCM throughout the process and I have not had an issue with distortion. Feels like a patch issue.....if the new Ulead still offer patches!!!
