No sound on V10

Post by sXeChic »

I just installed version 10 and now when I go to capture a video, there's no sound. In versions 8 and 9 I had choppy sound while capturing but when I played it back, everything was fine, but now there isn't any at all. I also have an additional folder called "AudioTmp" and there's a tmp file in there. Is there a way to make version 10 just like the previous two versions?

How are you capturing your video, and from what source? If not DV (avi) then do you have audio and video selected to capture or possibly just video?

Is your VS10 a full registered or TBYB (trial) version?

You might want to check, in the Capture window under the Options icon, whether VS10 is set to capture DV using the Type 1 Encoder (recommended) or Type 2 (not recommended unless you have a fairly powerful computer).

I started poking around between my sound card, capture card and totalrecorder and somehow it's working now. Now if only I can figure out how to fix the choppy sound. Thanks for your help guys.

Usually it's interruption of the data stream. There's also a setting on the harddisk called "Spread Spectrum Modulation" that's suppose to minimize RF.
That's usually a different background noise.

Maybe search the web or Toms Hardware Page you may be able to find what causing this. There are probably utility programs you can run to diagnose the cause.
You can also check the windows system messages for errors, irq/dma conflicts. Make sure that DMA is enabled for the harddisks.

Going by your computer specs this shouldn't be happening. Is your soundcard and drivers certified for windows media center?
.
Probably not. I just spent about 4 hours trying to update my soundcard drivers and finally had to use an old disk. My soundcard actually came with my older Dell machine. The soundcard that came with the XPS 400 was so bad, I had to disable it. I couldn't record anything on my computer and I'm always recording bits and pieces of shows and music. I think I might have to get a new soundcard. I'll check out those websites and how do I check to see is DMA is enabled? Is that in the BIOS? I think I did do something like that back when I was trying to figure out if I could enable stereo mix with the creation soundblaster soundcard I had at the time.

I just checked out VideoStudio 9 and the audio is fine now. While capturing the lips are off a little like it used to be but the final result is fine. That's so strange. So for once the out of date driver helps. Now there's this tracking thing on the top of the screen. I'll have to do a search about that since it doesn't go away on playback.

In VideoStudio 10 when previewing a in Project mode VS10 is chopping up the sound. Playing back in clip mode works. After the project is rendered to a single mpeg2 file it plays ok.
It's either a bug in VS10 or a windows bug.

On my computer it's happening to the files that have Dolby Audio from videos recorded from a dvd recorder.

If VS8 & 9 are working OK now after using another soundcard driver and VS10 isn't maybe your soundcard is OK and it's related to VS10.
Hare to determine without running tests.

I really need to run some test because now the sound is off a little and there's that horrible white line across the top of the picture and I can't release DVD's like that.

What was happening pre VS10 was that I got choppy sound on the preview mode. Then I'd capture, close the program and replay what was recorded, the picture and sound were perfect.

Once I installed VS10 the sound stopped working completely until I found the disk that came with my computer/soundcard that I got in December 2002 (It's in a new Dell XPS 400 now though). I tried installing more updated drivers for my soundcard but they didn't help at all and I just had a yellow checkmark on my soundcard under Device manager. The soundcard came with my Dell 8250. I read on the Santa Cruz Turtle Beach website that the card that came with the Dell doesn't work with their drivers so I have to download them through Dell.

So anyway, I downloaded the oldest driver and now the sound plays fine while previewing in VS10 but the words are off a couple of seconds. When I record it and play it back, the words are off about a second and I get this white tracking line on the top. The picture doesn't look as good as it did in previous releases.

No matter what version of VS I capture with, it now has the same results, audio off about a second and a white line on the top.
