I NEED HELP ! New VideoStudio 8 SE Basic User ?????

Post by kourso »

Can someone please explain to me what I can/can't do with this software. I am trying to use it for video production and I can't seem to get it to function on cd/dvd burning mode. I am able to edit/save my video but I found that when I saved as MPEG-1 it was saved as a winamp file, therefore other video software WILL NOT allow me to play or burn to a disc.
I DO NOT HAVE AN ACTIVE " CREATE DISC " button, it is there but grayed out. I would like to know what the capability is for this version of VideoStudio. I may have to resort to using Pinnacle/Nero software that I own. I understood when I bought the firewire card that this supplied software would do it all, capture/edit/burn without a problem. I don't understand why it does it fully function. Is it that I need to buy an upgrade for Video Studio to operate the cd/dvd burn mode ? I have read the readme that came with the software but I am confused.
Please send me some help asap.
Thanks,
Kenny

Also, I can't find a way to format my cd disk on my computer. Could you explain what I can do to get my cd formatted.

Hi Kenny,

First you have VideoStudio 8SE. This is a freebie version that is a crippled version. In other words it's not going to have all the features available as the full version. It's difficult to tell what has been removed from these, as they are tailored towards the hardware they come bundled with. They are are teasers, to get you to buy a fully functional version...

You should not have to format your CD in order to create a VCD. Formating a CD is generally used for creating Data CDs.

You say that when you create an MPEG-1, it is saved as a Winamp file. That has to do with your system (OS) associating MPEG-1 files with WinAmp. I don't use that product. If you want some other media player to play your MPEG-1 files, you need to re-associate them. In Windows Explorer go to the Tools menu, select Folder Options, File Types. Scroll through the list to find MPEG-1, and change the Open With to whatever media player, such as Windows Media Player.

If the Create Disc option in the Share Step is greyed out it means that either you do not have a CD/DVD burner installed on your system, or the SE version of VS8 does not allow burning discs.

Also go click on the ? and select Help. Then choose System Requirements. According to the full version your system is at the very bottom end of the requirements.
VS8 System Requirements wrote:System requirements
Video demands a lot from your computer. When setting up your system for video editing, the basic factors to consider are the size and speed of your hard drive, RAM, and processor. These determine how much video you can store and how quickly you can process or render your files. If you can afford a bigger hard drive, more RAM, and faster chip, go with it. Just remember that technology is changing so rapidly and by evaluating first the kind of video editing projects you plan to do, you can better determine the setup that works best for you.

The following are the system requirements for VideoStudio:
Intel® Pentium® III 800 MHz or higher
Microsoft® Windows® 98 SE, ME, 2000, XP
256MB of RAM (512MB or above for editing)
600MB of available hard drive space for program installation
4 GB+ hard drive space for video capture and editing
<--- These are the most critical to meet
Windows-compatible display with at least 1024x768 resolution
Windows compatible sound card
CDROM, CD-R/RW or DVD-R/RW

Real-time features perform best with at least:
Pentium 4, 2.0 GHz CPU
512 MB of RAM
7200 rpm IDE hard drive
Input/Output device support
1394 FireWire cards for use with DV/D8 camcorders
Support for OHCI Compliant IEEE-1394 and 1394 Adaptec 8940/8945
Analog capture cards for analog camcorders (VFW & WDM support)
USB capture devices and PC Cameras
Windows-compatible DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-R/RW
Sony MicroMV™

Tip: Follow the installation instructions of your hardware components carefully (especially your capture card), and consult the operating manual of your camcorder or capture device.

"I NEED HELP ! New VideoStudio 8 SE Basic User ?????&qu

Post by kourso »

Thanks guys,
I think that the VS 8 SE Basic must be limited intentionallly per cd/dvd burning. Should I just use another software and forget about Ulead VS OR should I check their website to buy an upgrade for VS 8 SE ? Would it be better to just buy another NEW FULL VERSION of ULEAD ?
I think I can still capture/edit/save with the ULEAD 8 SE Basic but I have to know which format is best to save as for cd/dvd burning. Can you help me with that ?
On the cd formatting, I was confused because when I go to "my computer" then click on my cd/dvd rw or my cd/dvd player, there is NO "FORMAT" option available as there is on my hard drive menu. I don't understand why I don't have the option to format a cd/dvd disc. Is there a way to restore the option or NOT ? Is there another way to format, IF I NEED TO DO IT in the future ?
Thanks for ALL of your help to me, this is much better to understand then those readme's that are written for 10 different versions and you don't know what applies to yours.
Great Web Board !!!!!!!

Download the free tial version of Video Studio 10. (Don't forget to download the User Manual too.) If VS10 meets your needs, you can get the upgrade price for VS10 Plus, since you own VS8-SE. (Last time I checked, there was no upgrade price for the 'regular' non-plus version.)

There are some limitations in the trial version too. There used to be something on the website about the limitations, but I think they are a secret now! (With the VS9 trial there was no Dolby audio, and I assume that's true with VS10 also, because Dolby does not want anybody using their technolog for free!)

For most users, Video Studio is the best choice, but there is a lot of overlap in ulead's product line, and you might want to check-out Movie Factory too. (Movie Factory is focused more on DVD authoring, and Video Studio is more focused on video editing.)

A video DVD, audio CD, or VCD does not have to be formatted in advance like a floppy or hard drive before writing to it. For example, if you make a DVD, Video Studio will create the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders and write the VOB files automatically.

Regarding your query about formating a disc.
CD/DVD discs are NOT hard drives, nor are they floppy drives.
In most circumstances they are NOT formatted.

You can use a CD/DVD disc like a hard drive. Having said that they are only re-writeable if you use re-writeable discs. When you use a CD/DVD in the same manner as you would a hard drive (with the ability to drag and drop files onto the disc) then you use what is termed "Packet Writing" software.
For this form of disc use then you DO format the disc. The formating of the disc is normaly performed by the packet writing software that you are using.

A standard Video DVD - the sort of thing you rent from the local video shop - is the sort of thing you create with VideoStudio. these discs are NOT formatted. If you format the disc you would be unable to create a Video DVD upon it.

I downloaded and installed the Ulead VideoStudio 10 Plus software. I am now trying it and when I go thru the VideoStudio Editor, I insert my saved movie which is a VideoStudio file. When I then go to the SHARE tab, screen, I select/click on "Create Disc", which I don't have on the VideoStudio 8 SE version, An error prompt comes up every time, I tried restarting my PC and the VS 10 program and it does this EVERY TIME. The error is: DELAY LOAD
Fail to delay load umlcomm.dll
I then click the OK button on the error prompt window and then a Windows error comes up, VStudio has caused an error in KERNEL32. dll
Let me ask this question?
I have WIN ME, would this software be for WIN 2000 or XP ?
Could this be the problem and if so, then I will have to remove the software?
I need some help again and thank you guys for ALL of your help so far.
Thanks,
Kenny
I will be waiting to hear what to do next ????

The problem you may have is that your system is not close to the system specs required to run VS10+

http://www.ulead.com/vs/sysreq.htm

VS10+System Requirements wrote:
  • Intel® Pentium® 4 or higher
  • Microsoft® Windows® 2000 SP4, Windows® XP SP2 Home Edition/Professional, Windows® XP Media Center Edition, Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition
  • 256 MB of RAM (512 MB or more recommended)
  • 1 GB of available hard disk space for program installation
  • Windows-compatible sound card (multi-channel sound card for surround sound support recommended)
  • Windows-compatible CD-ROM for installation
