Video Studio 10 will no longer run...

Post by drstevick »

Downloaded the trial version of Video Studion 10 this weekend and used it several times...

Went to start it this evening, and it would not start. Did nothing. Absolutely nothing. Hmm... odd... worked yesterday? So, troubleshooting XP step 1 - restart the computer.

Upon restart, I get a message stating "The security information is invalid or has been modified. The program will be terminated." Hmmm... that's REALLY odd. But, everything seems to start up OK. So I try to run VS10. Again, nothing. Nada.

I try the easy uninstall / re-install. Nothing.

I try the "hard" uninstall... After restarting the computer, the odd security warning doesn't come up (which is why I think that the message is somehow related to VS10) so OK... progress! But, I tried re-installing VS10 and it still won't run.

Now I'm angry because if I decide to give up on this program, the work I did over the weekend is lost (grrr) unless anyone has any suggestions as to getting the software back up!

Help! Please!!!

There seems to be a problem in Windows XP about the rights to run programs. This fix is for Video Studio 9 but has worked on other Ulead programs.
I keep clicking the VideoStudio 9 icon but VideoStudio 9 won't launch. What do I do?

* This is due to Data Execution Prevention for WinXP with Service Pack 2. Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance Settings > Data Execution Prevention . Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select then click Add . Locate vstudio.exe in the VideoStudio folder in Program files and select Open . Click Apply then restart your computer.

Still no go...

Thanks for the suggestion... But, it didn't do anything. Same error message on Windows startup, program still won't launch.

Try something different...

Any other ideas? After using it this weekend, I was planning on purchasing the software. Now, since I can't even get it to run...

System Restore...

Post by drstevick »

OK... Maybe I missed something when I did the "hard" uninstall... I did a system restore to the point just before I installed the software for the first time, then re-installed, and it seems to work fine.

I'm just curious what caused the problem in the first place... not going to pay for a program that I have to restore every other day!

The problem you are describing has only ever been reported on the board (from memory so be gentle!) concerning the trial version.
One prime suspect is that Windows update may alter some time based file or setting in Windows that VS Trial uses to calculate the expiry date of the trial. When that file or whatever gets changed VS may read that as an attempt to bypass the time setting for the trial and fail to load.

Can I ask you how it went doing a system restore? I upgraded from VS9 to 10+ today. Something happened in the installation process that affected the registry I believe as I am no longer able to rip audio cd's, and/or import audio files into either version of Ulead. I'm thinking of doing a system restore back to the point before I installed VS10+ At least this way I can get back to where I started? Let me know - thanks.

System Restore

Post by drstevick »

This is for Windows XP...

Got to START, Help and Support. Type in "System Restore"
on the left, it should come up with a list of topics. Select "Run the System Restore Wizard" and it should walk you through the process.

Good luck!

I don't know how "exactly" it restores the system... I know the video files I created were still there after the restore, just not the program files.

system restore

I did the system restore option this morning. I set the computer back 2 days till before I tried to upgrade to 10+. It seems to have worked. It solved my cd ripping problem. VS9 is back in tact with all files seemingly there. I'll attempt to upgrade again - when I've gotten over the trauma of yesterday...lol!
thanks for the advice.

The only strange thing was the project file that I saved as a VS10+ file was renamed to a VS8 file. I'm not going to use it anyway - it just seemed odd.

VIdeostudio will not start

Post by lenmore »

Having the same problem, video studio will not start, worked fine this morning and now just will not do anything. Cannot afford to restore system all the time, is there any other fix? Just cannot contact Corel, they are onlky interested if you give them a serial number but can't get that if the program won't work and they want to respond to anyone else.

Pretty much decided not to go near purchasing Corel Programs anymore, always big problems and no support.

Welcome to the forums,

First you tell us nothing about what version, or anything about your system. If you're wanting some help with this, please provide us with something to work with, other than it worked before now it doesn't.

This is almost indicative of windows D.E.P (data execution protection). I've had programs, and some being Corel/Ulead, that worked before then suddenly would not launch. Once I excluded them from D.E.P., they worked fine.To Exempt a program from DEP do the following:

1. Right-click on My Computer and Select Properties
2. In the System Properties dialogue that opens click on the Advance Tab.
3. Click on the Settings button for Performance.
4. In the Performance Options, click on the 3rd tab, Data Execution Prevention.
5. Click the radio button for Turn on DEP for all.....
6. Click on the Add button, a window will open that you can navigate to where the executable file for VS, MSP, PI or whatever program you're having problems with, is located. Generally this is found under C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\. However you may have it installed to some other location on your system.
7. Once you have found it, click on it to add it to the execeptions list.

Now if DEP was preventing your program from launching that should take care of it.

Please read this post, and return with as much of the information as possible.

Videostudio X2 (or 12) not working

Post by lenmore »

I did write all the details in the appropriate boxes when I posted my question, did not know that all the info I wrote would not show on the post, and did not think to write it all in the question box as well.

Anyway, I have the trial version of Video Studio 12 or X2 as they call it, downloaded and worked several times over a matter of a few days. Worked in the morning and then would not do anything, not even open in the afternoon. Click on the icon and nothing happens at all, from either the screen or the program listings.

No, nothing to do with DEP. COuld be a windows update stuffing things up, but don't want to restore all the tme to keep it working, would rahter take the easy way out and avoid, have had lots of problems with Ulead and Corel programs in the past and just put this down as another one, going back to Vegas Pro, as that works.

My machine is a Duo Core intel 3GHZ, 2 Meg Ram, 750Gig Hard Drive Space, pci-ex video card 512Mb, Windows XP Service Pack 3. Everything else wroking fine, just VideoStudio 12 not working. Lucky it's just a trial as would be royally shat off if I bought this pile of stuff.

Any suggestions would be fine, and apart from it worked before and now it doesn't, theres not much more I can tell you.
