It could be the nature of the program, didn't see anything in the book. When I go to multi-trim, adn clip something, when I click the play, it won't play in the bigger part of the screen. It will play below it in the edit/clip section as it glides along, sound is there, but no video above?
thanks bruce

This is not the nature of the program. I just tested using a DV and an MPEG-2. Both worked as they should (I don't use Multi-Trim much). The video was displayed in the preview pane and in the timeline.
So with that, I suspect it to be something is messed up with your install. Barring anyone else coming along with other possibilties, you might try doing a repair install to see if that fixes it.

repair feature?
VS10 has a repair feature?
Maybe I have to click on the clip itself or something, I'll try a few other things. Everything else seems to work fine so far.

same effect as playing a clip in clip mode
I noticed that it does the same thing if the clip is highlighted in the regular edit mode?
This was similar in VS9, on a clip, when I read the book, in order to play you need to click project in the regular edit mode?
Unless you have to click a shift key or something to play that specific clip?

Bruce,
It's looking more and more that something got messed up. Your system is sufficient to have the preview window displaying the video. While it is common for the preview in Project mode to not be smooth, it should at least display it.
Try checking your Direct-X drivers to see if there may be a problem with your system displaying overlay. (~Acessories/System Tools/Tools>DirectX Diagnostic Tools), run a check to see if it detects a problem. Also you do have the latest updates?
Also check with the manufacturer of your video hardware to see if there may be any updates or patches.
No Shift key is required to view a clip/project in Project mode.

will do, works under regular edit
Yes, I think it should, just updated to 3 gig of ram, I generally keep everything up to date. I will also check the direct x later today. Havne't had aproblem with anything else, and if I click on a clip in regular edit mode, it seems to work. One mode it doesn't I think, long as I click on the clip

stalls somewhat on start in multi trim? Is it normal?
I updated the drivers as well, tech support said to uninstall and reinstall. It will work now, but on the multi trim, when I play the the clips, it stalls for a second (though music is playing) and apparently is going. Then starts showing the video.
Is this normal. I installed the drivers, then did a repair, wondering if I should try uninstalling again, unless there is a slight (still pause) before it starts where the clip begins?
thanks Bruce

Stalling or hesitation is common when previewing in VS. It is just too much for most computers to deal with, when it is throwing all that stuff together "on the fly". I'm always getting alot of stuttering while previewing my work in Project mode. It's just the nature of the beast.
