When we click on the Insert Image File in the MSP8 timeline a box opens with the directory where I have archived all my images. However, this appears as a list of images, whilst I would prefer to have thumbnails by default. Anyway of achieving it. Thanks in advance.

vidoman,
Thank you for the prompt reply. I know already what you have explained. I have not been clear enough. What I am looking for is to see the thumbanails as soon as I get into the Insert Image window. I have tried to resolve it in the OS Folder Options but could not change from the Insert Image default list view into the Thumbnail one.
After reading your posting I went to see what happens in the simple Windows Media Moviemaker and surprise, surprise, the image thumbanail imediately pops up.
Am I missing anything. Thanks again in advance for this and many other helps (I ave seen many postings from you). Cheers.

Ok figured this out.... this is the easiest way to have your images displayed as thumbnails in all <--Keyword in this phrase, folders..
Open up your folder (My Pictures) change the display to Thumbnails. Then go to Tools>Folder Options>View.. You will see Folder Views at the top, with 2 buttons. Click the one that says Apply to All Folders. It will change the current folders view option (thumbnail in this case) on all folders. Then when you go to insert an image in MSP8 it will display the folder in Thumbnail view...
Thanks for raising this question.. I've been annoyed at this for sometime, having to change it all the time. I just never took the time until now to figure out how to have all the image folders display in thumbnail mode..

Vidoman,
I have followed your instructions and did not succeed. Is there any other option I need to check in the Folder Options menu?
I have however developed another way (I believe more fruitful) to inserting images, audio, video, etc. in MSP8 (and Photoshop). This consists basically on having permanently open the most comon files using Internet Explorer (I also have icons for all those things such as Audio, Video, Projects, etc. which I can access quickly whilst using MSP8). There are two main advantages of using it: i) bigger screen with much more images than MSP, which is another problem (should we try Ulead to improve it in fututure enhancements, or am I again missing something; ii) I can have most of the files I am using in a specific project all open.
If this is not clear to you and if you (or somebody else) is interested I can explain it into more detail.
Regards.

Well there are some folders that it is not going to work on. However I have tried this and most all my folders on my system that contain images now open in thumbhail display. This is not something that MSP, VS or DMF has any control over. It is a Windows Operating System, Explorer setting. MSP just uses this when you go to insert an image.
Tutorial to Change Folder Option
Tutorial to Change Folder Option
- Open Windows Explorer to any window, My Computer will do. Change the Folder Display to Thumbnails

- Click on Tools Menu>Folder Options

- The Folder Options Dialoge box will open, having 3 Tabs. Click on the Center (View) tab. Then Press the Apply to All Folders button.

- Now close Windows Explorer, and go back to MSP.
- Right-click on a Video Track to Insert Image File

- The Insert Image File Dialogue window opens, and your image files should be displayed as thumbnails, not icons.

Hi Vidoman,
Many thanks for the thourough explanation on how to achieve default thumbnails.
Unfortunately and after following your instructions step by step and several times (including together with another person), I could not achieve the expected view. Neither in MSP 8 nor Photoshop. Again W indows Movie Maker (which I never used) it does.
Thi is very frustating, though I have a way around it, I simply do not like not being able to do something which seems pretty simple. May be there is a tick in a box either missing or causing conflict. Who knows.
Many, many thanks for your attempt. If you will find out the possible reaon I will appreciate and will consider you a genious!
Best regards.
Jorge
