HDV Capture problems with JVC HD-100u
I shot several tapes in HDV30p (1280x720) progressive on the JVC HD-100u. I was going to use VS+ to capture and downconvert to DV, but I keep getting this error:
"Previewing of the video will stop due to differences in the formats (HDV and DV) of the video in the tape. Turn off then turn on your device to resume previewing."
Turning off the camcorder doesn't help, neither does a reboot. The entire tape is shot in HDV. VS+ recognizes the camcorder and sets itself up for an HDV capture, but only captures a second and then gives the error.
Anyone resolve a similar problem?

Tuprware,
You are the first HD-100U user on this forum. Welcome!
Are you followng the procedure in the HD Tutorial? http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=13872
I assume you have Video Studio 10+. Does XP have service pack 2 installed? Are the VS preferences set up as in the Tutorial - especially the prefs regarding preview? Your camera may need to be controlled differently from my HC1, so I encourage you to experiment with various Preference settings on the Capture tab.
What does the capture module say in the "Source" and "Format" controls when it recognizes the camera? What are the capture properties?
BTW, when I first got the HC1, I recorded some DV on the same tape with the HDV and had some difficulty later (with VS9) when capturing, but was able to position the tape past the DV section and captured the HDV OK. Have you tried capturing from your other tapes?

Hi John,
Thanks for replying. I do have service pack 2 and have read the tutorial and set my preferences to match those in the tutorial. Except for the field order is set to frame-based. I've tried two different tapes and got the same error.
The Capture controls tells me the source is JVC -- HDV and my format is MPEG.
I have also tried changing settings in the file HerCap.ini, based on another post I found in the forums, but no luck. Here is what that file says.
[CAPTURE_PLUGIN]
CurrentPlugin=4
CurrentDriver=0
DriverName=JVC -- HDV
CapturePluginPath1=VfwUleadMpegCap.dll
CapturePluginPath2=DswUleadMpegCap.dll
CapturePluginPath3=HotPlug.dll
CapturePluginPath5=WMFCap.dll
CapturePluginPath6=DswUleadMP4Cap.dll
CapturePluginPath7=HDVCap.dll
CapturePluginPath8=DVBTCapPlug.dll
[CAPTURE_SETTING]
ForceToUsePreviewMode=1
DisablePreviewAudioForDV=0
[Version]
ProfileVersion=1
I've changed the ForceToUsePreviewMode=1 setting to =0 and this didn't help. Any ideas?

You might want to send Ulead an e-mail to inquire if your camera is compatable, the chart for VS-10 indicates it is not.

I just found this at Ulead, hope it helps.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. It may not be compatible. I bought VS10+ because I it works really well with my mpeg4 camera (Sanyo Xacti HD). I usually use Adobe Premeire Pro, but have had problems with HDV/Mpeg2 and audio sync issues. I thought that since VS10+ handled my mpeg4 streams so well and it said it could do HDV that it would be a better tool than Premiere.
So, today I captured a part of a HDV tape using premiere and then tried to import it into VS10 and received a file format error. Media Player Classic will playback the captured clip perfectly.
I looked at device control and it doesn't list any JVC device, just a generic AV/C Tape device, which also comes up when my sony DV Deck is being used. I tried adding a new device, but JVC (or sony) wouldn't show up as a manufacturer in the hardware list. There is no disc that comes with this camcorder and I haven't found anything to download on JVC's site, so I dunno.

I think its promising too about VS10 recognizing JVC -- HDV, and it will start to preview and capture, but stops and gives the error of HDV and DV on the tape. The whole tape is shot in HDV 30p.
I tried Terry's second link and I got it hardware manager to recognize it as a JVC Tape Device, but it still didn't work.
The premiere pro files have a .mpeg extention.
thanks,
tup

Hi,
thanks for replying, i'm ready to give up and stick with premiere.
When I try to insert a 1280x720 30p mpeg file captured from Premiere Pro. I get the error:
Unable to open [filename].mpeg
File Format mismatch
[16803:1:3]
Not sure what that means, but Media Player Classic opens the file and plays it full screen, with no problems.
So, a litlle frustrating spending so much time and I still can't capture HDV, and I can't register my product or email tech support or get a reply back about why my email(s) do not work. It worked to purchase the product.

Tup,
The JVC-HD-100U was the very first HD camcorder and must have a practical workflow that works. If I were you I would look up JVC user forums for answers on what they have found that works.
Try:

As for the Ulead web site, we have no control to change things and all suffer its inadaquacies... Sorry.
