Problems recognising Sony MINI DVD

Operating system Windows XP 64
The VS does not recognise the Sony Camera. Have had problems with XP64 before so tried it on another Laptop with VS bust still no recognition. Sony is connected to Laptop via USB when connected it is recognised but listed in device manager as “mass storage device” I Can access the files on the Sony by going “Capture”- “Import from DVD..”- “Import DVD Folder” Browse Then open files on Sony. The chapters appear in “Import DVD window” but when I click on any of them program freezes and has to be restarted.
Any Help Please

That's the way Sony makes them. You need to finalise the DVD take it out of the cam place it in the DVD tray of the computer then...pray that the DVD player can actually read 8cm DVD's of that brand and you will then be able to Import.
Failing that use the software that came with the cam to import from the DVD while it is still in the cam. Then link VS to those files.

Thanks But not an option I have a Post It DVD tray so can not risk getting disk gobbled up. Have managed to transfer files from Sony to Laptop Hard drive But they are not recognised as video files. I have just managed to open the VOB files by using "Insert Media file they" are appearing in Clip board and playing but when I save only get short video so still experimenting

The vobs are container files that have the MPEG2's inside.
If you can transfer the file structure from the DVD to the hard drive then go to "Capture tab" and select "Import DVD/VR" from there navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder and select that and try to import or open the folder and select the vobs and try to import.

HI Lance
That does not work  But if I use "Insert Media Files into Time line" It will inport video. However when I spent over an hour editting and saving . Reopened project to find I had 34 clips all the same with gaps between the clips. I notice that the vide sometimes stuck at one particular frame which is now the one that appears at begining of each clip and clip just shows the one frame and sound for rest of that clip.
Hope you can help
Thanks

When you do import the video in to the timeline can you right click and post the properties of one so I can see it?
